We didn’t “need” a performing arts center. Also what is going to be the long term costs of this addition? What’s the going to be the cost of upkeep, maintenance on equipment? Not to mention with costs rising now due to the financial handlings of the current administration, what are you going to do when the projected costs come in higher than expected?
Making an educated guess based on what the candidates ran on and what those on the TC said they want to do. You can’t buy things without money? The residents just passed an 18 million dollar school remodel. That money comes from somewhere.

The sad part of this library fiasco is who is running this circus. You have Mr. Mayor who spearheaded this library in cahoots with CHA head. If you look at the finances the architect/CHA head is sure getting a bundle from professional fees. These two are in conflict of interest being powers on both boards. They really want this to be another monument to their legacy just as the ballfield that we don't use was to past politicians who are no longer in Cranbury. Wake up folks you are being taken to the cleaners and will be paying for this boondoggle forever!
Feel free to move to another town in central Jersey with lower taxes and the charm of our town. If you can find one.
You won't be missed here.
The question that remains is if in 5 years we will still have the low taxes we have now.
Are you predicting the future? If so, let us know when the pandemic is over.

It's a myth that the Library is being build without using Township taxpayer dollars. First, they have been hoarding their annual allocations for years to contribute to the cost by providing less service than was paid for year after year. Second, the Township is directly paying well over $1 million for all the site work, grading, underground retaining basin and the parking lot. They pretended like this was the benefit the business district but everyone understood the only reason it was done was to support the new library. And if you're gullible enough to pretend it was for the business district then why did they not proceed to build it for the couple years the library was on hold when it didn't raise enough to cover it's costs? Of course it was a backdoor way to get the Township to cover some of the costs.
And of course all of this was done without a referendum to see what taxpayers wanted.
The school construction projects are really the only project that legitimately has demonstrated the support of taxpayers for many years.
This is not actually correct. The cost the Twp was to fund was 400k not 1 million for that work you mention. Then when the grant came up, the TC required that the library put that work into the grant. So that if awarded the grant which we were, the TC would not pay anything to the library. This was the creative thinking of that TC that kept taxes low. I was at every TC meeting on the library and while I never supported it. I was happy that the TC had found a way to avoid funding outside the library tax.
Now, this TC could say the town had planned to spend 400k. So here is 400k for furnishings which is my fear.
If you don’t believe me you are free to call town hall to confirm.

Wait until it is built and the asks come quickly.
The TC members that had been involved and ensuring no local tax dollars were spent are now all gone replaced with people who felt the library should have been built long ago well before the state grant. The promises the library made that they could fund the desks, chairs, tables and other furnishings is now out the window. I bet at budget time the Library will come in asking for 100-200k in support for the interior and that the TC will approve it and that we’ll see additional funding every year beyond the few hundred thousand they get via the taxes.
How much do you want to bet?
Four of the people on the TC come January ran on the library having to be built no matter the cost.
So I think it is a fairly good bet that the library will do as they did in the past at various times and ask for additional funding and given the public positions it is a fairly safe bet the library will get what they ask for.

We get what we vote for. For a number of years, we voted for people who were committed to low taxes, and we had a good run. For the past few years, we have voted in people who promised more services, and now that's starting to happen. When we start getting the bills for the extra services, people will complain and maybe we will go back to voting for people who are committed to low taxes.

Regardless, that ship has sailed. At least it was put to a vote that every taxpayer was invited to participate in. That's more than the library supporters were ever willing to do. They avoided a vote like the plague for over a decade. And in the scheme of like-to-haves I would take a performing space over the library or the Babe Ruth ball field or the brick paths on Main or the proposed bike paths. I'd probably vote the bike paths second. The ball field which is almost never used last. But in the end we were only allow to vote on one of them and the voters have spoken.
Exactly! And now we our stuck with the cost of maintenance and upkeep of a library that will hardly be used.

Brick not brine. Though maybe with how much salt they use in winter in the roads that would work too.

The brine sidewalks cost the town nothing as it was a state beautification grant from the state. The only thing the town paid for was a couple extra street lights.
