Advisory: Cranbury Township Police wish to alert residents of recent area crime trends and to take the appropriate precautions The Cranbury Township Police Department wishes to alert all residents of recent crime trends currently occurring in neighboring jurisdictions. Crime crews continue to travel to ouir area with the intention of committing burglaries and thefts. In most instances, multiple suspects are observed. These individuals work in groups within residential neighborhoods. Unlocked vehicles are targeted. If the keys are found to be inside of an unlocked vehicle, the vehicle is taken. Furthermore, the suspects are using garage door openers found inside the targeted vehicle and using same to gain access to the home. Once inside, suspects target keys to other vehicles parked at the home along with loose cash, jewelry, pocketbooks and electronics. These incidents have been occurring during all days of the week, primarily between the early morning hours of 2:00 and 5:00 AM. All of the burglarized homes have been occupied, with the occupants asleep inside. We cannot stress enough the importance of recognizing that these incidents are occurring. This notice is not meant to entice fear but this Township is not immune to incidents like this. Please take all precautions to safeguard your homes and vehicles. Be vigilant, be safe and immediately report all suspicious activity to the Cranbury Township Police Department.
Bail reform, defunding the police, not prosecuting or incarcerating chronic offenders. Great ideas. Instead of fixing the real problems that exist in the inner cities and improving quality of life, we are ensuring that those problems are leaking out into the suburbs.

The issue is the prosecutors. I was in NYC and couldn’t get my credit card to work on the turnstile. An officer came over and helped me. As he was right there three people jumped the stile. He looked at me and said nothing I’m allowed to do. We are not enforcing laws. In NYC the DA has said if a person holds up a deli with a gun, but no one is harmed it should not be prosecuted as a felony. Stores are being shop lifted because the prosecutors won’t prosecute.

Yes. Blame the police who are trying to stop the people who are breaking the law and driving recklessly.
So it’s ok for people who have nothing to do with the situation being put in harms way? The more speeding vehicles the more chance or an accident. With officers being able to claim qualified immunity as the accident happened while in the course of duty. This will then turn into a civil suit against the municipality resulting in tens of thousands to millions of dollars of taxpayer money in litigation then that much and more for damages, hospital bills, family compensation or burial costs.

I was hoping someone could comment on the quote in this article and explain why police would fail to pursue the suspect in recent car thefts.
https://centraljersey.com/2022/04/05/cranbury-police-investigations-continue-on-recent-auto-thefts/
From the article:
He said patrol units attempted to engage in a motor vehicle stop.
“The suspect vehicle fled onto Station Road, ran a red light while turning north onto Route 130. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed on north Route 130,” Owens said. “Our officers did not pursue the fleeing vehicle.”
Why did the police not pursue? Taxpayers in town are frequently pulled over for seemingly minor traffic violations yet a suspect in car thefts running a red light is not pursued?
Don’t blame the liberals for this one; blame the police who injured or killed innocent bystanders with their reckless driving. This is something that is easily found in a google search.

Yes. We had a guy in a BMW pull into our driveway telling me they had a paving job in the area and could come by and redo my driveway cheaply. When I said no they got annoyed.

When is the last time that a resident was pulled over for a “minor traffic violation” and it resulted in an actual pursuit? Notifying other towns and using plate readers is pretty much useless. The other towns have to follow the same Attorney General pursuit guidelines which prohibit police to pursue for property crimes like a stolen car. Most of these offenders do go unpunished. The offenders know this. The crime trends from the cities are now bleeding over into other communities like Cranbury. To not see this is to keep your head in the stand. Magical invisible municipal boundaries no longer exist. If you want these trends to stop you have to elect politicians who will appoint attorney generals and prosecutors who will allow the police to be the police. If not we are damned.

I don’t disagree that what you are seeing in NYC and other cities is very concerning and horrible policies like with Bragg. But that is not Cranbury policing.

Notifying other departments works well when they can’t do anything either. When it’s a stolen car how does the plate number help and jail time. Please maybe you don’t read the papers. Murders, criminals with guns are all being released.

This is typical policing policy to avoid the risk of a high speed pursuit injuring the officers or other drivers. There are many ways they deal with it. Notifying other departments down the road, tracking plate numbers and visiting the person’s home. Rarely do these individuals escape with no penalty and usually end up serving jail time. All you need to do is read the papers to see how common it is.

Thank the liberal politicians and the waste of time and money spent on the defund the police movement. Police in NJ are no longer allowed to pursue or chase unless it’s basically a 1st degree crime.
