The township is negotiating to preserve about 60 acres of farmland on Plainsboro Road through the state Green Acres program.

The Township Committee discussed the acquisition of the 59.5-acre Reinhardt North property in the closed session of its Aug. 15 meeting.

Township Attorney Trishka Waterbury said the discussion was brief, and concerned ongoing negotiations with the property's owner, Clifford Reinhardt.

Ms. Waterbury declined to comment further on negotiations, but said the Township Committee is considering buying the property with proceeds from a Planning Incentive Grant provided by the Garden State Green Acres Preservation Trust. She also said the committee is looking at "alternative funding sources."

Ms. Waterbury said if the township were to purchase the property, it would be deed restricted for passive recreational use.

"It's big wooded area with freshwater wetlands," Ms. Waterbury said.
