Just watched the show. I've dined at H&M's 3 times before the show, and twice after. The food has always been mediocre. The farm concept would have been a great improvement. Simplifying their food and menu makes total sense.
I agree with Nicole. Ramsey thought that because we lived near farms and because the town has an agricultural base, that we would want to eat "country" food. We always like H&M because it was nicer dining without leaving town. I think Chris knows his customers and what they want. That being said, the pork chops with apples looked great!

Also, the restaurant does use one local farmer, Sally, to get fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, and the like during the summer... not sure how much great produce we can get in the middle of January, but I guess anything would be better than the FRESH
frozen
snap peas Mr Ramsay and co. provided us with in the name of FRESH, LOCAL ingredients..... gotta love SYSCO for local ingredients....

How can a restaurant who was barely surviving on filet mignon and lamb chops get by selling chicken stew and beef hash with eggs? It's not practical and the owners were never consulted before Mr Ramsay and crew completely revamped the concept of the restaurant....

There is a lively discussion of this going on at

- I think you'll find there are many people with differing opinions.

The place in the old Jamesway shopping center? I've been there a few times and it's not what I think of in terms of fresh farm stand. Stew Leonards in CT and Whole Foods is fresher. I'd rather have a local market in town with local produce. Not at H&W, but somewhere else.

That's the difference between a restaurant and market. The Blue Rooster is a bakery as is the place across from the ice cream shop. Ramsey changed the purpose of the restaurant too much.
Now, with that said I'd like to see a market re-open with fresh eggs, milk, and produce.
There is the farmers market on route 130 that already sells local dairy eggs, milk, and fresh fruits and vegetables. I go there rather than shoprite. It would be hard to compete with them. H & M needs to stay as a restaurant and not a produce stand.

The blue rooster says they are a bakery. I tried it once. Went in looking for a bagel or a buttered roll and they looked at me like I was crazy. I guess I wasn't classy enough for them. They need to get real. Not everyone eats quich for breakfast.
Really? If you walked into a bagel shop and asked for a scone, they would look like you were crazy too. Blue Rooster is a great bakery in the European tradition. It's not a deli or a bagel shop. They do breads, cakes, and pastries, as well as serve breakfast and lunch.

I am not one to get queezy over shows like that, so that wasn't a problem for me. I realize that part of the show was over-hyped (and I'm sure H&M is probably on par with most restaurants as far as cleanliness goes).
The problem I had is that the suggestions sounded great and apparently they were not taken. I just want to know what did they change as a result of the show? Are they still using local food (even with their old menu)?
I have not been there under these owners so I can not really speak to the quality of the food, I was however really looking forward to stopping in and buying things like local eggs, milk and apples. Are they still selling those?
I really hope that going on this show works out for them. Since apparently they didn't keep the menu and stick with the suggestions it would be a shame to see this all be for nothing. Maybe in the end people will get "curious" to check the place out now that it aired... although people may go in expecting to see the new menu.
I guess we will just wait and see what happens...

I am not a patron of H&M's so I really have no personal opinion or stake, but reading this thread the negative comments feel like their coming from the same disgruntled person. Someone obviously doesn't like H&M or their owners and keeps posting over and over with little digs. Everyone gets it. You don't like them or their restuarant. Okay. Enough said...

As a former employee in Television and a friend of someone who participated on another reality show I can assure you that most of what was seen was staged. It's actually quite funny because producers will prod people to say and do things for effect. For example, why do you think the Chef's look so surprised? It's often because the food is brought in and placed there by the show. Don't you think people would clean the restaurant prior to being on TV or at least one of them would?
On one filming of a TV talk show a participant from Survivor came on exclaiming their strength. The host then set them up with a demo of strength. If you watched the TV show it would seem the person was able to stand on a bucket with a plank across his shoulders holding water on both ends for the entire length of the program. In actuality it was only 5 minutes, but because it's not filmed live it was able to be edited and look like he did it for 30 minutes. Those in attendance that day I am sure saw a surprise when they watched the episode air.
I wouldn't worry about the food you eat there. The show is like any other, entertainment. Now if this was in the news as an undercover investigation, I'd be concerned.

I would have been embarassed to be on that show. Chris and Brain didnt come out looking to good. I dont think the place will last too much longer~ it was very gross to see the way they keep their food! YUCK!

I agree the show wasn't as bad as some but it was still quite gross. I may think twice about the chicken when I return. It was a gamble. I hope Chris and Brian come out winners becuase I would hate to say goodbye to another small business that contributes so much to the appeal of Main Street. Terhune Orchards and Pam Mount most be thrilled. The show was certainly a commercial for Jersey apples! Crunch!
