Post subject: Traffic issues in school lot
District to change drop-off site
The parking lot at the Cranbury School is a crowded place when it's time to pick up and drop off the children for school.
Buses, cars, and pedestrians arrive all at once to get the kids to school on time, and school officials say that the congestion has become a somewhat dangerous situation.
Chief School Administrator Carol Malouf said that even though they've asked parents to drop their children off before the buses begin to arrive, there is still a problem.
"We've asked parents to drop their children off between 8 a.m. and 8:20 a.m., because at 8:25 a.m. buses come," Ms. Malouf said. "The cafeteria is available for the children to wait inside."
The next step is to attempt coordinating the traffic.
"After 8:25 a.m., we are going to ask parents to only disembark in front of the auditorium and not by the buses. We're going to try that, to see if it makes the difference," Ms. Malouf said
The Cranbury police are aware of the situation, but according to Ms. Malouf, they are confident in this course of action.
She added that a portable gate will be put in to guide parents toward the auditorium and away from where the buses line up.
School board member Frank Ransegnola agreed that there is a situation to be dealt with.
