Post subject: The Township Committee minutes for 1/19/09
Jananuary 19 Special Budget meeting:
"...
Ms. Marabello led the discussion by stating that she had met with Mr. Jerry Thorne, Public
Works Director, concerning his 2009 Proposed Budget. Mr. Thorne erroneously had left out the
charges for South Brunswick Sewer and as a result, this year’s Budget will be very “tight”.
The Township Committee discussed with Mr. Thorne various items in his proposed Budget:
Mr. Stout recommended looking into getting bags for leaf pick-up in the Township and asked
that the costs associated with this be analyzed vs. using the Township’s leaf machine.
The Township Committee requested Mr. Thorne provide them with the costs associated with
watering the Township’s ball fields and suggested perhaps the Township look into drilling a well
to supply the water instead.
The Township Committee re-visited the discussion of purchasing new police vehicles. Ms.
Smeltzer stated she had spoken with the Manager of Westwood as they are using hybrid police
vehicles. She reported they are using hybrid SUVs. Mayor Stave asked for a more detailed
analysis and Mr. Stout asked for police statistics on repairs and mileage. Mr. Stout also
requested Ms. Smeltzer find out if any police departments in Middlesex County are using hybrids.
Public Comment
The Mayor opened the meeting to public questions and comments: There being no
comments, the Mayor closed the public part of the meeting.
The Township Commmittee unanimously decided to hold the nextOn motion by Mr. Stannard,
seconded by Mr. Stout and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
