Once the holiday is officially behind you, you will begin thinking out loud ... "now what can I do to help jump-start the new year"? <br /> <br />Allow me to offer a timely suggestion .... come to the Cranbury Coffee House on Friday, January 8, 2010 for a joyful, uplifting, and heartfelt evening of christian music featuring singer/songwriter Chris Stein. <br /> <br />For those of you who don't know Chris, following is a brief bio ..... <br /> <br />Chris served as the lead pastor of a church in Eastern Pennsylvania for over six years, and was involved in pastoral ministry for more than fifteen years. He has been traveling nationally, leading worship, speaking, and giving concerts for youth and adults since 1992. Chris has served in all aspects of pastoral ministry throughout his career. He has had the joy of working with students as a youth pastor, led music teams as a worship pastor, preached and taught small group discipleship as an associate pastor, and served a church plant as the lead pastor. But Chris' full story is really so much more ... <br /> <br />In 1998, Chris' first CD "Simply What I Believe" was released featuring nine tracks of acoustic and electric guitar driven music. All the songs were written by Chris and shared over time as he traveled. In late 2000, the demo for Chris' second album, "Carpenter's Son", was completed. Preparations were made for the recording process to begin in the Spring of 2001, however life took an abrupt turn in March of of that year when, after fighting headaches for months and then beginning to lose vision in one eye, Chris scheduled testing and was diagnosed with brain cancer. What was discovered was an Astrocytoma in the right temporal lobe. This did not deter Chris from his ministry. <br /> <br />Chris took a giant leap of faith and decided to use his journey of health struggles in an exciting new way. He accepted a position as a Resident Chaplain in the Pastoral Care department of one of the largest Level One trauma centers in Pennsylvania and began to utilize what he had gone through to help others. Chris specialized in Pediatrics and Trauma as well as Oncology and the Neuroscience units. Chris discovered that people who have themselves been patients, can share compassion from a unique perspective. They too have layed in a bed and felt the pain, fear, and longing to be well. <br /> <br />Chris' health is now strong and when not doing music he serves as the chaplain of a regional medical service as well as an international industrial business. He continues writing and working on completing new projects. His latest offering came in May 2009 when Chris released a special compilation CD to benefit the KHG Brain Tumor Awareness Foundation. In addition to his original writings, Chris also released a live worship event available in digital download format. <br /> <br />So, if your looking for an exciting start to year 2010, make it a point to be a part of this joyous celebration on Friday, January 8. Admission to this event is $8.00. Show time is 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30 PM. A portion of all proceeds for this event (including kitchen sales) will help benefit the First Presbyterian Church's deacon's benevolence fund and the local food pantry.
