Post subject: Re: Hunting Hagerty and Fischer property
I promised myself not to reply again to this post. I removed my belongings immediately after a town councilman told me of the problem.I have done everything asked of me , but now we have someone posting this sight pretending to be me. I don't appreciate this at all. The township lawyer is looking into the legality of this matter ( hunting township property) and the area game warden has been informed. You people may continue to ramble on about this but I suggest you stop posting comments pretending to be me.
Thank you.

I am not a Cranbury resident I grew up in Plainsboro and live very local. This has nothing to do with where I hunt.

Long before you - and will still be around after your kids get the education you want for them and move along.
Let me guess - you're also the individual who appealed to township council to move the deer crossing signs -- because the deer were crossing near your home....
Ugh - just love it when newbies move in and want to change whats been happening forever. Those in power call it "progress" - no, it's just trying to appeal to the big mouths that think they own or have a say in everything. Good grief!!!

That is not correct. If the farmer leases land then they must have that right agreed upon by the entity from whom they lease.
Similar case here:
http://www.nj.com/hunterdon-county-democrat/index.ssf/2014/05/farmer_tells_raritan_township.html
It is up to the farmer and hunter to get permission or they can opt not to lease the land. The township does not lose their rights to govern the land.
The land is owned by the public and my guess telling the public they cannot use their land because we granted a hunter the right to hunt would present a much larger risk for a suit.

Since a farmer who plants the fields has a lease with Cranbury township I beleive that it automatically gives the farmer the right to hunt the property to control loss of crop and damage? But I would think Cranbury township would at least tell people that they couldn't walk on the property from a certain date to a certain date(hunting season) to avoid someone from accidently getting hurt.
Our code book states the following:
Chapter 110-6 Prohibitions on Hunting
A. No person shall hunt, shoot, kill or remove any animal, whether by gun or other firearm, by bow and arrow, crossbow or other weapon,
on any lands under the control of or owned by the Township of Cranbury.
B. Notwithstanding the above-mentioned provision, nothing in this section shall apply to any person authorized by the Township Administrator, Chief of Police or Township Committee to hunt, shoot, kill or otherwise remove any animal on Township-owned lands for the purpose of the protection of persons or property or in the interests of the public welfare.
Despite the land being leased, it is still owned by the Township.
I did ask the question as to whether point B applies to any properties we lease. While I do not recall seeing any such agreements, they may pre-date my time on the TC.
Again, it is highly illegal and unsafe to hunt on the Hagerty property where the trees are planted.
If anyone is hunting on Township land and they are not protected via the sole exception above then we will fully enforce the law including involving the Game Warden.

How did Bruce get permission from a Former counsel member back in the good old days?? Shouldn't everybody have had a chance to hunt the property instead of just a select few?

I enjoy hunting and used to love getting my Christmas Tree at the Applegate farm and seeing what they were able to get deer wise. I have a fake tree now for a variety of reasons.
However, I also balance safety with where I hunt and I know a few farmers who have stopped hunting on their own land. The Fischer property is very tight and has public easements for walking in the area.
I can also see why the town would not want people hunting on Twp owned land and the farmer has the right to not lease the land. I think we rent for around 1-2K a year.
When you own the land outright you can make the decisions just like when you own a home. When you rent, you're subject to the terms of the lease.

So sad-4p3r wrote:
Bruce, why would you want to shoot defensless animals??
To cull the deer population for the farmer and provide for his family, why else? I guess you're a fan of Disney & Bambi... and prefer the 5,520 car accidents that occurred in NJ last year that were caused by/or involved deer.

With all due respect, your post seems unwarranted.
All that was stated was that you said you were hunting, you said it is a gun free zone, and the person said they guessed you were bow hunting. What does that have to do with knowledge of fire arms why attack the poster?
The Mayor posted the ordinance above with his name and citing the ordinance stating that there is no hunting regardless of means on township owned land. He also stated that the Town will be strictly enforcing hunting and game laws which means potential prosecution.
That to prevent any legal trouble you might want to verify that your permission still exists since it seems the Mayor is unaware of anyone having a right to hunt these properties. If the Police and Game Warden are of the same view and if whatever authorization you have expired it can create issues for you.
No one is attacking you, but the last post seems to be someone trying to help you from getting into a bad situation. If you have a right to hunt and I don't doubt you do, then you should make sure you verify that right with the town.
If someone else who does not have a right is out there, isn't that something you'd want to know about? I stopped hunting because of a couple of encounters with unsafe hunters who were hunting illegally and trespassing.
