Mayor's Update - February 14, 2023
Dear Cranbury Residents,
Happy Valentine’s Day!
At last night’s Township Committee meeting, we had over 25 BSA Troop 52 Scouts and parents join us as I gave the “De-Mystifying Local Government” presentation --- check it out on our website or watch the YouTube feed if you missed it! Mark Berkowsky presented the Community Block Development Grant, an annual grant from the state that has brought more than $1 Million to our community over the past 20 years to support our affordable housing obligations.
NJ ANCHOR Program Applications are due February 28. Eligible New Jersey homeowners and renters can receive up to $1,500. Homeowners and renters are eligible for this program (income limits apply).
SCHOLARSHIP: The Woman’s Club of Cranbury. The deadline is April 30 for a $2,000 Woman’s Scholarship award, which is financially- and goal-based, for a woman returning to school after some time away and pursuing post-secondary education. Download the application on the Women's Club website.
SCHOLARSHIPS and AWARDS: Cranbury Lions. Nominations and applications are due April 14 for three Scholarships and one Award, all of which are available to students living in Cranbury. Students are encouraged to apply for the scholarships and award; parents, school staff members, youth leaders, and neighbors are encouraged to nominate any worthy student for the Stan Thomas Community Service Award. More info is at the Cranbury Lions Website.
Cranbury Station – Call for Pictures and Paraphernalia. The Historic Preservation Commission is requesting that any residents who might have photos, documentation, tickets, sale receipts, or any other paraphernalia from the Cranbury Station’s working days and operations to please contact Susan Ryan at
sryan@cranbury-nj.com
.
New Jersey Broadband Survey. If you’d like your voice heard in how internet service is provided to Cranbury, please feel free to fill-out the State’s broadband survey to provide your opinion.
Upcoming Events:
March 28 - New Neighbor’s Reception. This fun annual event is returning now that the library has a new home and can welcome our newest neighbors into the new space. Register now if you’re a new resident, or feel free to pass this message on to a new resident who might not even be receiving this email news yet.
April 24-30 - Cranbury School 125th Anniversary Celebration: We continue to make progress towards planning our week-long celebration activities. On Friday, April 28, Cranbury School alumni, former staff members and community members are invited to celebrate our school’s history alongside our current staff, parents and community members during an adult only dance. Stay tuned… more details will be shared soon!
April 29. Town-wide Garage Sales. Clean out those closets and get ready to shop for bargains at this fun annual event. More details to follow.
Arts in the Park / Walking Path in Village Park. Look for the return of Arts in the Park this spring, date TBD based on the completion of the half-mile walking path in Village Park. New water bottle stations are coming to all three parks as well this spring!
May 7 – Tour de Cranbury and 1713 House celebration. Cranbury Troop 52B Life Scout Tyler Cenci is organizing a two-tier bike tour of our town as his Eagle Project; one route will be a 10-mile path around town, and the other will be an in-town route for families or beginners. The event will feature bike safety and different “stations” around town, including events at the 1713 House in Millstone Park.
Enjoy this short month and the approaching spring!
