How much is a cat license anyway?
They are not planning to license chimps anytime soon, are they?...............just asking...............no reason.

Oh, they WILL find you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are investing thousands of dollar in a cat-detector van which will cruise the village looking for unlicensed cats residing in people's homes. Expect to get a big fine or even confiscation of your cat by the local cat-detector person.

Big Mother is watching you!

There have been more cats than dogs for a long time so that reasoning is bogus. So are all the other excuses. This is a tax, as others have said and has absolutely nothing to do with sound public policy.

Cat Tax

It is a cat tax, clear and simple. This all started when the County Animal Shelter presented this idea to our Cranbury Board of Health as a way to raise money.

They in turn ran with the idea and sucessfully put a spin as the rabies scare (which by the way is effecting our wildlife only and the board of health has not implemented a solution such as vaccine pellets).

It reads like it's a cat tax!

1. Why have so many jurisdictions enacted cat licensing laws?

Cat licensing is a sensible approach for local governments to relieve the burdens of increased cat related problems and increased budgetary constraints. Problems stem from cats' growing popularity (there are now more cats in the United States than dogs), their breeding potential, their potential role in the spread of rabies, and irresponsible caretakers. The fees paid by cat owners help local governments, often operating under severe budgetary constraints because of the many demands, including the need to provide shelter for increasing numbers of cats. Cat licensing provides a way to raise needed revenues from cat owners, who should rightly help pay for cat-related services, as dog owners have historically been asked to do for dogs.

My point exactly - it is totally unenforceable. We have enough laws on the books that can't be enforced - now we are adding another one.
