Obama pardons Minn. fifth-grader who skipped school

By David Jackson, USA TODAY

Turns out President Obama signed a pardon recently -- for a 11-year-old Minnesota boy who cut class to see him in the flesh.

Tyler Sullivan told KARE-TV of Minneapolis he skipped school for the first time in order to meet the president during his visit Friday to a Honeywell plant in Golden Valley -- and he accomplished his goal.

"I was sitting in the front row," said Tyler, whose father introduced Obama's speech. "It was pretty exciting." Afterward, Tyler said he got to shake the president's hand, and Obama asked: "You must be missing school."

Yep. So Obama got a pen and a piece of paper with the presidential seal, and asked Tyler for his teacher's name (Mr. Ackerman).

The note reads: "Mr. Ackerman, Please excuse Tyler. He was with me. Barack Obama."
