One thing that puzzled me is why there is no turf grass that is as tough and vigous as the crabgrass?

Maybe if there is one such turf grass, many seed companies and lawn care companies will be out of business?

I hate seeing crabgrass growing like crazy in my lawn. I often wonder how the professions keep the crabgrass in check in my neighbor's lawn. Here is a simple solution:

1. Buy the right herbicide. I found the following easier to handle (always handle poisonous stuff with great care):

Quinstar 75DF (Drive) Crabgrass killer 1lb for about $55

This is what the pros call "Drive 75DF" made by BASF. You won't find it at Lowes or HomeDepot. BASF does not make it anymore but offers a new version (more expensive) called Drive XLR8.

Fortunately, there is a cheaper, generic version called Quinstar 75DF; I bought it from this site:

2. Buy an adjuvant called methylated seed oil (MSO).

This stuff makes the chemical stick to the grass longer, thus more effective. You can do without it. I use it.

Methylated Seed Oil (MSO) Surfactant, Adjuvant for Herbicide - 1/2 gal - $14.95

http://www.pestrong.com/379-methylated-seed-oil-mso-surfactant-adjuvant-for-herbicide-1-2-gal.html

3. Mix Quinstar, MSO, and water for spot treatment.

I use a 1-gal spray tank for spot-kill.

A. Fill the 1-gal tank half full
B. Add 1 Tablespoon (3 teaspoons; 0.5 fl oz) Quinstar to the tank
C. Add 2 Tablespoons MSO to the tank
D. Add water till it reaches the 1-gal mark
E. Agitate the tank to dissolve the Quinstar and MSO

That's it. You are ready to spot-kill the crabgrass you hated so much. Smile

Again, please handle the poisonous stuff with great care, and don't forget to wash the chemicals off your body if in contact.
