This e-mail was sent from the organizer's of the event... Subject: Cranbury Day As the path of this storm is so unpredictable we have decided to go on with Cranbury Day as planned. Use your judgment. If it is pouring, the event will not be happening, but if it is clearing - come on out! Because of our reliance on Township services we could not change the date. And unfortunately we cannot provide refunds as there has been a lot of out of pocket expenses for promotion and rentals. Just keep your fingers crossed and hopefully we'll see each other on Saturday.
True. Wouldn't it be nice though if they still came?

Actually they have huge sales around the holidays and I think there is one going on now until 9/14. If you haven't been there it is a must see.

Cranbury Day Next Year

Post subject: Re: Cranbury Day & Camp Out - rain date?
Turned out good, although shortened by the rain by a few hours. What about next year, what do citizens want to see to make it even better next year?
I for one would like to see a table from the businesses on the other side of 130 represented. Wouldnt it be great if there was a table that included Lenox, HomeDepot, BarnesNoble.com and PetSmart some of the other business here in Cranbury?

I too saw Wayne and Tom. I did not see the ballfield 3- Pari, Stannard and Stout. I was also disappointed that on our biggest day as a town the TC booth was not there and that these 3 didn't even walk around in it's absence. I saw a Dem booth and Rep. booth where I saw Wayne. I saw Tom talking to people. How could the whole TC not show up and support our town? Heck, I even saw Linda Greenstein at Mr. Ritter's booth.
What I also found interesting was that John Ritter's booth seemed to follow the same pattern of Stout, Stannard and Pari with the focus on catering to party as opposed to town interests. Our town is too small for political party interests.

I saw Wayne Wittman on his bike and at Win Cody's booth.
I saw Tom Panconi with his family.

It was wonderful that the rain held off for most of the day and we were able to have Cranbury Day.
Every year, the Township Committee has an information table. Even though it was planned, I noticed they did not show up this year. Most other exhibiters did show up.
Did anyone see any of the Township Committee members among the crowd of people during the day. I wonder if they even attended the biggest community day of the year in Cranbury.

I am not involved, but was a little involved in the past.
A few things.
Bellmore and Cranbury are entirely different in terms of dynamics and resources. The Business Assoc. does not have the depth that Bellmore has to pull this off.
This is the first time that Cranbury Day has had this type of panic about rain. It's taken place for over 20 years now and it's never been an issue before.
Running a two day event takes a lot of time, resources and effort. It also involves shutting down Main St. and paying over time to police officers to control the traffic. Our town can't due this for more than one day.
In terms of a rain date for most people it is not an issue. The issue is for vendors who purchase the tables, for media where the event is advertised and then trying to lure the crowds. It is not a simple thing.
In terms of the TC involvement, they really have no say. It is a town supported event, but it is not a town run event.
Instead of complaining, let's all be thankful that the CBA still sees a value in this and takes the time to run it.

Next year, Cranbury should think about a two day street festival. That way if one day is bad (or canceled for the day), you always have the next day.
I use to work for a company in Bellmore, NY that took part in the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores yearly street fair. They started on a thursday and friday with a carnivale and the weekend added the street festival featuring all the local businesses and organizations. Never has this street fair rained out due to the two days of the street festival (I've been present when one day it rained and the festival was canceled for the day - BUT the next day it was overcast and the festival went on.)
I'm not saying we need to be as large as the Bellmore Festival - just extend it to a two day venue. That way the vendors and organizations do not lose any money.
FYI: If you are going to be on Long Island at the end of Sept., you might want to check out the Bellmore street fair. A great family fun day.

I have taken part in other town festivals and they always had a backup plan ie rain date. We are such a small town, why can we not move it to next saturday? A problem with our sanitation dept? Then let's get an outside service.
This is the one day that the whole community gets together; residents, businesses, organizations, etc. and shows off the special qualities and unity of Cranbury (especially due to COAH - many politians would be showing up).
This is absolutely poor planning (and no refunds to boot). Cranbury Township Committee where are you?

I know the fire company is not doing it this year. Not sure if the lions is doing it either. What a shame because of the money these places do need. I do not understand why they cannot do a rain date. Other towns such as hightstown have rain dates what is the matter with this town?

The big problem is going to be for people who ordered supplies just for tomorrow. Perhaps next year they could schedule a rain date.

There have been times in the past that the same thing has occurred and the day has turned out nice. If the situation is chance rain or forget it until next year, I'd take the chance.

I cant believe they are not cancelling it - 80 percent chance of rain - its going to rain - Who ever is in charge of Cranbury Day has done some poor planning - There should have been a back up plan - but they didnt think of that.
