The most recent example of the mess that affordable Housing rules and legislation are causing in New Jersey can be seen in Princeton.

According to a recent report Princeton University has recently starting building five (5) affordable housing units at a cost of $2 Million Dollars and is obligated to build a total of 40 affordable housing units for Princeton Borough due to its expansion of Bloomberg Hall, Whitman College, Sherrerd Hall, and the Lewis Library.

To make matters worse additional projects which are scheduled to be built will result in Princeton University having an even larger affordable housing obligation then the original 40 unit number.

University Vice President and Secretary Bob Durkee recently commented on COAH’s affordable housing numbers and how they are negatively impacting Princeton University…

"The state formula resulted in an estimate that Whitman College, for instance, would create 500 new jobs when it opened, Durkee said. “Anyone who knows anything about Whitman College knows this is a ridiculous number. The actual number is closer to 50.”

As we can see from the quote above the numbers being used by COAH to force Princeton University to build affordable housing are not based in reality.
