It was excellent that Mr. Taylor made the effort to get the correct information out to the public. I can understand his reluctance to post here due to the whackos who throw stupid bombs and do not stick to the issues. It would be nice if the Township would post the same contact information in their emailings to residents so that the folks who experience the acrid smell ,but are unaware of what it is, can register their complaints as well.
Hats off to Mr. Taylor, he is the only committee member that has taken an interest in improving this unpleasant smell.Well Done!!!

So a TC member comes here and addresses an issue that seems a few people raise. Then someone posts above. No wonder they debated posting here.

I debated posting here as only person spoke with me a couple of weeks ago on this issue and I would much prefer if a resident has a concern that is they contact me directly so it can be discussed.

First, we have to be careful about the process. I spoke with the county and they have a means for measuring smell and for complaints.

The process is as follows:

- When a smell is noticed we must at that time notify the county. The easiest way to do this is to contact me at jtaylor@cranbury-nj.com. Or call town hall and they can call me.

- You can also upon noticing the smell call Mickey Gross who is the head of Middlesex County Enviornmental Health Division directly at 732 745 3817. Mr. Gross is aware of the issue, is a great helpn and will send someone out to investigate right away. He and I spoke as recently as last night.

The county cannot simply do a spot inspection. They must be alerted to the smell, then witness it and using a process determine the smell level there are 4 different levels.

Once they witness it they can then determine if a violation exists and cite the party if a citation is called for.

The fine is 2-3k per day so it can add up quickly.

The reason that this has not yet been addressed is that no one has smelled it in time to notify the county. I smelled it on Friday last week, but was not available to make a call to the county.

As for the parent posting. The parents may be the force needed to get some action. If at least 3 individuals call the [county air pollution office 732 745-8480] on the same day or [DEP 609 584-4100]they will send out an inspector. It would also be wise to inform the township administrator every time you observe the obnoxious smell. Really, the parents as a group have the largest organized block of power in the town so don't waste your influence. You should research emissions from CONAGRA and the violations they have had throughout the country. Are you being exposed to something toxic? You decide if you want to take that chance?

Here is the process. The county needs to come out and actually smell the smell. They cannot simply do a site inspection by law.

I recommend you email Mr. taylor jtaylor@cranbury-nj.com when you smell the odor. The county will respond I am sure and take action.

Per an earlier post it appears that Mr. Taylor has reached out and is working on the issue. Why not email him and ask for an update? I am sure his email is on the town website and you are more likely to get a response and update that way then simply raising a complaint here.

Whenever I have reached out to the TC I have gotten a response right away. May not be the answer I want, but I got an answer.

Picking my daughter up at school today the smell was very strong. In fact my daughter even commented how bad it was.

Unfortunately, I think this is a factor of zoning law. The town cannot stop businesses provided they are allowed uses. The result is this horrible stench.

You do realize things take time. People don’t just drop everything because you post. If a complaint was registered they likely need to schedule a visit. Or maybe they did and cited them with a violation that will be appealed or maybe they were cited and need to fix something.

The use is approved. The best we can hope for is that something is broken and being fixed.

Why was Conagra allowed in the first place? This smell is disturbing. Something needs to be done about this.

It was allowed as the post above stated because that is the zone LI. The town cannot stop a business from operating in the specified zone. That would be illegal and the town would lose a suit. The only thing to be done is what it seems Mr. Taylor did. Ask the county to ensure the filtration is operational.

What about the invasion of Christmas decorations!! We should have a dark unlit Main St at Christmas. How much are we spending with beautiful lit wreathes downtown and garland on the lake? At least 10.00 of my tax money is used to pay for electric for all those LEDs. Who needs to make the town look nice at tax payer expense!!

Just look at the home of TC member Mr. Taylor he lives in one of the most historic homes in town and has blow ups in his yard eee gawd!! How dare he do something that wastes energy and likely makes his kids happy. His kids should learn now that life is tough not funny happy looking blow ups.

As a 1,000 plus year resident of Cranbury who remembers a time when only native americans were here and met Good ol'George Washington and Hamilton pre-broadway fame I am aghast that the home where they met has an inflatable nutcracker or snowman. Georgie and Hammy would find it so British. My time here gives me the right to always tell people how the town should be and how it was better in the olden days.

Then you have the alien landing zone on N. Main put on by the Shaw family. How dare they bring enjoyment to others (seriously I can understand immediate neighbors issues and concerns) while I live outside of town and never see it. Cranbury is historic and even though I never see the Shaw home I am dismayed that it is occurring and it bothers me. He should consider my feelings alone not his families, those helped by him or those find it entertaining. Besides, while nice it is not like it is a Christmas Light Fight quality winner. So if he's going to do it, then do it right and plug into the Salem Nuclear plant, use the backyard and build a Santa village with Disney level animatronics- Just be sure in this PC age not to have Santa say, "Ho Ho Ho" too loud. The wrong person could think he is being suggestive and sue. We don't need to see the Cranbury Press headline Shaws Santa Unplugged due to Sexual Harassment on N Main. And make sure like Matt Lauer no one looks to see what is in his sack just in case.

Then we have a Christmas Tree and Menorah. I celebrate Festivus for the Rest of Us. If there is a holiday caroling and santa visit supported by local entities then I want my airing of grievances to be held at the old firehouse as well, my feat of strength contest at the gym and a big pole right next to the Christmas tree.

The TC knows all about these issues, don't tell me they do not. I don't go to a meeting and complain why should I take that time of 10 minutes away from my life. I am too busy with my pet rocks. They either seem to keep dying on me-- they never eat and drink or worse they keeping having babies. They multiply rapidly, every time I let them outside I open the door and see thousands more. Animal control and the shelter won't take them so I am left caring for them. Every time I open my front door rocks come out. But, I do send the TC messages through my special aluminum foil hat I wear. I put it on and walk up and down Main St. sending my thoughts to them.

And just in case, the above is just a joke about what this posting on Cranbury.info has become.
