Frederick Kelmer, 50, was supposed to be sentenced in Bucks County Court in Doylestown for molesting two girls is his former Lower Makefield home. Kelmer, who now lives on Cranbury Station Road in Cranbury, N.J., instead checked himself into a New Jersey hospital complaining of heart attack symptoms. County Judge David Heckler said he was suspicious of Kelmer’s claim, but after looking at a doctor’s note and other information presented by Kelmer’s attorney, the judge ruled Kelmer, instead of reporting to jail, must appear at a bail hearing when he’s released from the hospital. Heckler said he sympathized with Kelmer’s victims — who have endured six continuances already in the case — but said he did not believe he could legally send the child molester directly to jail. The judge promised to come in to court to oversee a hearing as soon as Kelmer was available, even if that meant cutting his holiday vacation short. “It is, of course, remarkably inconvenient for all concerned,” Heckler said. “The victims do have a right to put this behind them.” A jury in June found Kelmer guilty of six counts of indecent assault and two counts of corruption of minors. The panel found that Kelmer molested two girls, one over a six-year time span starting when she was 5 years old and the other while she was 8 or 9 years old. Westfield police charged Derek McDonough, 28, of Bradford Lane with sexual assault, luring and enticing a child, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact. Mr. McDonough met the girl over the social networking Web site MySpace about six months ago and began communicating regularly with the girl, according to Capt. Cliff Auchter. Soon the two arranged to meet somewhere near Westfield and engaged in sexual activity, Capt. Auchter said. They continued to meet in the months leading up to Mr. McDonough’s July 10 arrest, with most of the illegal activity going on at scattered locations near the girl’s Westfield home, police said. Sometime that week, the girl’s parents noticed some suspicious activity on the family computer the girl had used to contact Mr. McDonough, police said. They contacted police, who interviewed the victim and pieced together what had been going on between the girl and Mr. McDonough during the previous six months, according to police. That information was used as probable, according to Capt. Auchter, who said Westfield police then went to Plainsboro Township to take Mr. McDonough into custody. The mistake will make residents living near Station Rd. plenty to worry about. I am glad it is clarified.

I think you missed the point of making sure the facts are straight. It's not about that he lives in Monroe or Cranbury; It about jursidiction, making sure that the proper agencies investigate and prosecute if neccesary. It would be so easy for this type of crime to be bypassed because it fell thru the cracks due to wrong info or because he is doing time in another state.

However, I think a point does need to be made it is Monroe and not Cranbury. A lot of media outlets use Cranbury because of the turnpike and that some of Monroe years ago (prior to the zip change) I believe had Cranbury addresses.

Should the titled be changed to "Monroe Male" then? Maybe it should - However, the arresting officers and the news reports have stated he was a Cranbury Resident. This is something that needs to be verified by our own township officials. Otherwise, we are passing around further disinformation.
