You are incorrect that the parks close at dark in all instances. They are regularly open after dark. A few examples would be national night out, the fireworks show, movies at the park, and other similar events. The basketball court at village park is used after dark on a daily basis from March through November.
The parks border residential areas. Which wouldn’t be as bad as the show being in a residential area. There is a difference between it being in a residential area and near a residential area.
Also the parks have large parking lots.
The question of why it MIGHT be a good idea was answered fully. Your critical thinking and comparison skills are severely and that is a evidenced by the fact, whether or not you agree with the idea, you are not even able recognize the difference between it happening in the park verses happening in someone’s front lawn. Due to your lack of critical thinking and comparison skills, you are not a valuable component to this conversation and thus I will not be responding to any further to you and it would probably be wise for everyone else to ignore you as well.
If the basketball court in village is being used after dark that is a violation of park rules. The other instances you mentioned are once a year events. You also stated other similar events, it MIGHT be a good idea to explain fully. The only park with a parking lot big enough to put on a Christmas light show is village park. So basically what your saying is now that the nuisance is over for people on North Main Street, let everyone on Maplewood Avenue deal with it. I never had a problem with the Christmas light show at the gentleman’s house on North Main Street, however I do not live in the immediate area, and it is by no means the town’s responsibility to provide space for a light show.

Becuase the Christmas light show was a nice thing to have in town if it weren’t for the fact that it disturbed the neighbors. If it were permitted in one of the parks where there is open space away from houses and parking lots (instead of street parking) it would’ve left us with the nice show without the nuisance in any residential space. If the associated costs were paid by the person putting on the show (from show proceeds) and the profits above those costs went to charity, why not? We let any person in world who wants to rent the parks for a few dollars (for parties, etc.) with no oversight on the mess they leave behind. If we let non-residents use the parks for their family reunions and large parties, why not a charity light show?
Of course this leads to many other questions and by no means have a thought out all the angles of it, but it is an interesting thought in my opinion.
With the above being said, your half sentence rebuttal was well thought out and eloquently stated, I must say.
Unlike you I don’t need multiple sentences of senseless rambling to get my point across. First off all all parks close at dark. Secondly all parks are in residential areas, which will create a nuisance for nearby residents. Last of all your multi sentence response still fails to answer the original question which has a half sentence answer.

I agree. Everyone enjoys nice Christmas lights displays. No one ever has a problem with passive decorations. However the North Main Street display was not fair to the neighbors at all. People should have a reasonable expectation of peaceful enjoyment of their property. The extreme amount of lights, the traffic cones, and the constant crowds were not at all fair to the neighbors. Can you imagine having that next door to or across the street from your home for the entire holiday season for 11 straight years?
It’s ironic to me that it only generated $125,000 over the course of 11 years. I would think there’s much less disruptive way to generate $10,000 or so per year for charity.
Also, I’m not sure that I 100% believe that the homeowner stopped doing their display voluntarily or for personal reasons. The neighbor’s sign that says “victory “certainly leads you to believe that it was more forced than that. I also find it surprising that they didn’t announce that they weren’t doing it anymore until November 17 which is weeks after they normally begin the set up.
Anyway, I’m glad to see it gone because I know some of the neighbors in that area and they are nice people they did not deserve to live next-door to that disturbance for the entire holiday season year in and year out. I always thought that the town should have offered the use of a public space (Park, etc.) for the show to be set up in, but I’m sure the red tape would’ve been endless for that.
Why should the town offer space?

Great it works. If this gets blocked I'll just go to another wifi spot where I cannot get blocked and can voice my opinion like everyone else on here.
Now for the subject of that house on Main street. So glad he is done. I personally know it was a financial problem. He is having a very tough time playing his bills.
What a horrible thing to say. I hope you never fall on hard times, but if you do, I really hope that none of your neighbors gleefully cackle about it on a public forum.
Not a fan of the light show, but what you've just done is absolute trash.

So you needed to make multiple efforts to make a worthless post? It is disheartening that you know no shame. You'll make a snide comment in return, hiding behind a keyboard, and you'll feel good about it. But maybe one day you will have a moment of self reflection.

I had always said that if I lived next door to it, it would rent construction type flood lights like you see on roadway construction sites at night and put them on my property facing towards the light show and light whole area up like broad daylight.... light shows don’t have the same appeal without the darkness haha

I used to feel terrible for the neighbors during November and December. How disruptive and invasive that must have been for them. 2 solid months of noise, traffic, cones jammed all along the road not to mention the display itself which could probably have been seen by passing aircraft. I don't think it matters why the lights aren't up this year, but I am very happy for the neighbors.

I remember when I was younger it seemed almost every home had lights up and we’d drive around our town looking at them. One of the best displays was done by a family friend who was Jewish. His parents loved the idea of decorating the house. It wasn’t as extravagant as the Shaws’ display, but it was nice.
I see a few homes here and there decorated, but not as many as used to be. I hope this changes.

Christmas Spectacular On Main Street Cranbury NJ
November 17 at 7:01 PM ·
My Family and I would like to thank everyone who has come over the years to see our display and help us raise over $125,000 the last 11 years for the food banks!
We are sorry to announce that the 2017 season was our last year. I am sure many will be as disappointed as we are to have had to make this decision. To set up our display it would take us over 3 weeks and then we have to be out each night we have a show. Our oldest son Alexander is now in High School and our youngest Kristopher is in Middle school. They are both involved in after school activities 7 days a week which requires both Marina and I do get them to these activities which just does not make it possible for us to continue our display.
We will soon announce some other display that we would recommend you to go see.
Thank you again for all your support!
