Dear Concerned, I know of no TC member being ostracized. That's extremely harsh. However, becoming a TC member you will run the risk of being criticized. That unfortunately is part of adding yourself to the political process - democrats and republican. Just think of how many time you might have criticized our own Governor about not wearing his seatbelt or talk about our President going into Iraq. That's not saying they are bad men - only bad decisions. To my knowledge, there have been no untruthful or hateful remarks about anyone in our town. Only concerns, questions, and exchanges of ideas. With every opinion there will be an opposite. It's it great to live in a country with freedom of speech. AND Yes, the TC needs a pat on the back ever once in awhile - but they also need our help and input. Without it they will not know what's on our minds. Let's face it, hardly anyone shows up at the township meetings. So, the TC goes on their Merry Way and votes and makes decisions without input. Not necessarily their fault unless it is a closed session. But, there is hope for us yet - If you were at the COAH meeting - what an exciting turnout. As far as a Finance Committee - I am a past board member of Big Brothers Big Sister of Long Island; Having a Finance Committee was and is an important part of the overall longterm plan. Even when local, state, and federal funds were being seriously cut - this finance committee always managed to find ways to raise the funds needed by being extremely creative. By presenting short-term, interm, and long-term ideas to the board for approval. This visionary finance committee helped this small nonprofit to expand from Nassau County and finally consolidate with the failing Suffolk County Branch to become Big Brothers Big Sister of Long Island. Granted, this did not happen overnight. I'm not sure what might have happened if all the financial ideas only came from the board; but I do know exchanging ideas is the start to the keys to success. Anyway, Don't be fearful about volunteering or saying your peace - You don't have to be in the public eye to help our town - join one of the committees or help jump start a think-tank financial club. Use your talents for the betterment of Cranbury. Don't forget - We are all neighbors and respect everyone's truthful opinions no matter how harsh.
"Plainsboro Village , the original settlement in the Township with buildings dating from the 18th Century, is benefiting from controlled growth that is guided by the Plainsboro Village Area Master Plan. The Plan calls for the preservation of the Village's historic character while introducing appropriate and attractive commercial and residential development to help the Village become the center of community life. Development of the new Village Center mixed-use development is under way."

Hey, are we abiding by our own Cranbury Township Master Plan? I have not been able to find information about the NEW baseball field or and proposal for a spot for a new library or even adding an additional library. Any ideas?

The ball field will go forward. It is my understanding that a bunch of the money will come from State and County. How much? I don't know, ask the TC and then post it here.
Will it generate any money? Well, it depends how much it is going to be used. People will go to town for pizza and ice cream afterwards.
Where will they park? With home plate near the new gym. I assume they can squeeze into the school parking lot. Speaking of parking lots - it still makes me mad that all the evergreens were cut down when they expanded the parking lot a few years ago. Can wespent money on some new trees?
What are they going to do if they don't build the field? Well, the TC will cry to you - if you push them - that the open space will have to be used for something, and they will cry to you that if we don't build that field, then they will have to put affordable housing on it. BS in my opinion. Plainsboro has great Community Gardens (and we have low-income senior housing right there....what a great idea to get our citizens back out of the house). West Windsor has an Arboretum (right by the school on 571). We have 14 ballfields....every size conceivable (maybe not 14, but it sure seems that way).
If somebody want to get out pitchforks and march to town hall to protest the field....just post here when.
Of course...another selling point of the field is that it will preserve the "Open Space" with something that will hardly be used (so they say). But of course it will bring a lot of garbage with it. Look at the soccer fields after the matches are over. Trash everywhere.

Given the tax and spend mentality of the TC Committee, it wouldn't surprise me if they were secretly planning to build a dome over the Babe Ruth field...
. Gee maybe even throw in a concession stand!

14 years??? Where are the reports on the revenue it will generate for Cranbury? Given few Cranbury citizens will actually benefit from the ball field, I want to know this will generate a profit the second the field is opened. IF NOT...why are we doing this?
I agree that the ball field and PNC purchases are not something the TC should be considering at this point.
TC...I hope you can hear us!
Maybe the TC can hear you, but why would they give any credibility to an anonymous poster on a blog. For all we know you are 3 different "Guest" on this blog.
Try going to meetings and talk to them in person. Or you can continue to blog anonymously and get nothing done. If you are so "concerned" then get to town hall on Monday evening !

I don't think it's a project the township should pursue given the debt load. I don't understand why the township keeps spending while everyone seems to agree, even the mayor, that we need to cut back.
Who in the TC are pushing for the PNC purchase and the ball field? I want to email my complains directly to those TC members.

I agree there is a follower mentality. Further the PNC Bank purchase is a repeat of the Babe Ruth field. No real long term plan or idea of what the final cost will be to the tax payers of Cranbury. Just image how many millions of dollars could potentially have to be poured into the PNC bank property for renovation of a 100 year old building. As the old saying goes if you fail to plan then you plan to fail!

We'll they still don't know how much the babe ruth field will cost us. They have to do cleanup which was not even considered. Even though this idea was on the books for around 14 years - They just went ahead without any planning.
This is what happens when you're trying to compete with other towns. We are no longer leaders, just followers.

Is there anyway to 'revoke' the Babe Ruth field? Is there anyone in Cranbury who supports the expenditure? Where will they park - PNC bank lot?
I think putting that money toward our debt is a better choice.

I am confused. The town is trying to spend more money on projects that have dubious benefits to the taxpayers without seeking comments from the taxpayers? I think my trust is misplaced.
I am glad someone (was it wcody?) caught the closed session discussion regarding the PNC bank purchase and protested it.

About the baseball field, if the residents are not the main beneficiaries of the project, then just ask who will benefit most if the project is pushed forward. I'll look for connections among various people.
This is just investigative journalism 101.
I was under the impression it already has pushed forward -- I though the council approved it, with a seven figure budget, last year, in a closed session and without a vote of taxpayers of course.

Speaking of the Babe Ruth baseball field, what is the status of this project...."Take me out to the ballgame".
I still have yet to ever hear anyone on the council who voted for this defend why it was important for the taxpayers to contribute well over $1M for this project. How is it benefitting a majority of our citizens and why was it essential to the town?
Does anyone know enough about the history to know who first proposed the idea and what, if any, relationship they have to the people on the council?
Any why wouldn't they put this to a vote in the township?
