[quote="Princeton Packet"]Defending Elms of Cranbury Thursday, August 14, 2008 6:51 PM EDT Rochelle Lee and family of East Windsor My mom has lived at The Elms of Cranbury for almost seven years. She has received excellent care for every day that she has been there. My husband, children and myself have gotten to know all of the staff at The Elms. They are warm, friendly, caring people — many have been there longer than my mom. The Elms is immaculate. Bathrooms, public and private, are always clean. The carpet is always vacuumed. Fresh flowers and table linens are always present in the dining room. My mom has also always been given many choices of what to eat. Food is prepared to her likes. The doctor and nurses have informed me of any problems my mom might have and we’ve discussed it together. Treatments have always been immediate and positive. They have wonderful activities and programs — from arts and crafts and bingo to trivia games. They have live entertainment that even I have enjoyed. They celebrate all holidays and decorate beautifully too. My family and I have formed such love relationships with the owner, her family and the rest of the staff, that we visit often and always enjoy seeing everyone and all the dogs. It is great for all the residents to have all of these well-behaved animals around to play with. I keep a box of dog biscuits in my mom’s closet just to give them an extra treat. I can go on and on about the wonderful experiences we have all had at The Elms of Cranbury. I am extremely pleased that my mom can live at this special place for the rest of her days. I have to say both of my grandparents have stayed there at times and we were very impressed with everything.

Three area nursing homes cited for deficiencies

Three area nursing homes have been placed on a federal list of facilities targeted for improvement of the incidence of bedsores and of physical restraint rates among their residents, according to a report in Friday's Princeton Packet.
The Pavilions at Forrestal in Plainsboro, Princeton Care Center in Princeton, and The Elms of Cranbury in Cranbury, were all placed on a nationwide list of over 4,000 nursing homes which the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services targeted for improvement.
According to the Washington, D.C.-based National Citizen's Coalition for Nursing Home Reform, to be on the list a nursing home had at least 20 percent of its long-term residents in physical restraints or had at least 11 percent of its long-term residents with pressure sores in two out of the past three quarters.
