Residents getting carried away; camera club sponsors balloon rides on Main Street
With a burst of flame, Cranbury residents soared into the air, harnessed to a bright red balloon.
The balloon rides were part of an event hosted by the Cranbury digital Camera Club Monday night from about 6:30 until dark to raise awareness about its upcoming photography workshop and balloon festival.
Passers-by were given the opportunity to operate a smaller version of a hot air balloon for free under the guidance of balloonmeister Bob Sparks, of Air Ventures Hot Air Balloon Rides Inc. in Pennsylvania.
Belted into a harness hanging from the balloon, residents were instructed on how to light and direct the flame that lifted the balloon to tree top level outside the Cranbury Firehouse. Balloon riders were lifted high enough to literally pluck leaves off the top of nearby trees.
During the event, members of the Camera Club handed out brochures advertising for its photography workshop and balloon festival, to be held Aug. 11 and 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
