The message you are currently sending is that you are silly. If you are truly unhappy why did you not run, or find a candidate who shares your views and have them run? I get the impression you have been completely uninvolved and uninformed. In fact your trumpeting SEND A MESSAGE neglects to actually articulate what your message is.
Look this is a small town. Here is how you send a message. Go to a meeting and express yourself. If you are too timid to do this contact a board member privately and express your opinion.
Don't vote yes or no to send a message. Especially if you can't articulate what your message is. Vote yes or no because you agree or disagree with how your tax dollars are being spent.
Excellent advice. The above posters message seems to be "any increase is BAD". That is patently silly. Costs and needs change. Populations increase. If we NEVER increase taxes does that mean that our education program just declines as costs increase? What basis does the poster have to state that the candidates running are poor choices? Has the poster met with or discussed the issues with these candidates? What is wrong with the budget? Where is money being wasted? What changes does the poster propose?
Silly is the right adjective to describe this post!

Actually, the one concern I have is that we can't seem to find BOE candidates and are lucky we have 3 this year. The BOE elections in Cranbury are uncontested the last few years. While I give full credit to the people running and devoting their time, it's just disappointing that we don't have more people able to run. I wonder what will happen one year if we have 3 seats and only 2 candidates. In other towns it seems the BOE is as hot or hotter than municipal elections. Unfortunately, I like many have commitments precluding me from running.

Post subject: Cranbury School Budget FAQ April 2010
http://www.cranburytownship.org/school_budget_faq.html
When is the vote?
Tuesday, April 20th from 2-9pm.
Is it too late to register to vote?
Yes.
Where do I go to vote?
Your polling place is Town Hall. You will receive a sample ballot from the Board of Elections.
What questions are on the ballot?
There is one budget proposal for the 2010-11 school year on the ballot. It is a yes/no question asking for funds to operate the school from July 2010 through June 2011. You will also elect three members to the Board of Education.
Why do we vote every April?
By state law, every municipality determines the local tax levy for public schools on an annual basis in New Jersey.
Who is running for the board?
There are three candidates running for three seats. They are Michael Ferrante, Kathleen S. Wasson, and Wendi Patella (incumbent). They are running for three-year terms.
What impact did the loss of state aid have on the Cranbury Township School District?
The Governor’s state budget cut all state aid to the Cranbury School. This has led to cuts in staff and programs.
What other factors influenced this budget proposal?
Other factors include increased costs of benefits, insurance, energy, contractual salaries and building maintenance, and the loss of $165,000 in promised revenue from the state for the 2009-2010 school year.
If the total budget for 2010-2011 is $1.2 million dollars LESS THAN the current year, why is there a tax increase?
The increase is to cover a portion of the gap left by the complete loss of state aid as well as the 5% decrease in the assessed value of real estate in the township.
What is the tax increase?
The tax increase will be 3.26 cents per $100 of assessed valuation which amounts to $201.50 for the average assessed home of $617,254.
What happens if the budget is rejected by the voters?
The budget does not return to the Board of Education. By state law, it is reviewed by the municipal governing body. In Cranbury, a defeated budget goes to the Township Committee, which may recommend additional budget cuts to instructional programs and services.
What can parents and community members do to influence decision makers about the loss of state aid?
Community members may contact local legislators. Cranbury is represented by legislators for the 14th District: Senator Tom Goodwin, Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein, and Assemblyman Wayne D’Angelo. Contact information can be found at
www.njleg.state.nj.us
Where is there more information?
www.cranburyschool.org
Garden State Coalition of Schools website:
www.gscschools.org
New Jersey School Boards Association:
www.njsba.org
What can be done to insure that voters get to the polls?
REMIND people to vote. Talk to community members.
Who can I contact if I have any questions on the budget?
John Haney, CSA/Principal; Joyce Picariello, Business Administrator; or any member of the Cranbury Board of Education. In addition, the Board of Education will be holding an information session to discuss the budget and answer any questions on Monday, April 19th at 7 pm, in the Cranbury School Large Group Room, located behind Town Hall.
