Post subject: Re: Honest question
The thought of switching out members of the committee is an excellent one. Having been on many boards over the years I have always found the new members force, or at least encourage the old member to at least think differently or more carefully. This should apply to our municipal boards as well. Why should we have members of some boards there for 20+ years? Its time we get some new blood and new ideas.

I can't answer your questions; though it gives thought. This is not endorsement post, but a food for thought post.
You gave me something to consider so I did a quick review and don't see any votes that Mr. Johnson and Mr. Mulligan differed on. (Caveat note, it was a quick review so maybe someone will highlight votes I missed.) Which leads me to the point of discussion.
If one believes in succession planning and assumes a TC member will have a limited number of terms 2-3 perhaps. Then the idea of voting in one new member and one incumbenent at each election makes sense if the two candidates who are up share similar views. You maintain the same view point on the TC; but by adding someone new provide a continuation of knowledge as people retire from the TC. The end result is our town is left in the best shape possible from a leadership perspective long term and perhaps gains a new perspective in the short term.

Post subject: Honest question
I have an honest question to ask. As it seems all the endorsement letters for the sitting members are coming from known party people R or D. I am looking for an unaffiliated view.
What I have seen from the TC.
1) more restrictions placed on us with maintenance codes, special permit ordinances, etc...reading the agenda it seems we always have an ordinance which means money spent.
2) I see taxes going up except this year when Mr. Johnson and Mr. Mulligan were running for reelection. They have both been strong advocates for increasing taxes prior based on reading the meeting notes. This year they were against it. So while I enjoy it I am skeptical. Did we not need past increases, did we need it and not get it this year or was it truly not needed this year.
It's not all negative I see good work on the Dam and Downtown and channel 3.
I still see a lot of vacant warehouse signs. These two have had 3 years to help get in rateables. I don't think it's their fault, but I also don't know they can claim success either as some claim.
Now, I also can see the logic in some continuity one new member and one existing. So perhaps voting Mr. Mulligan is the right choice as it seems he has the most support. But can someone with actual facts show me what Mr. Johnson or even Mr. Mulligan can do that Mr. Bounavolonta or Mr. Connolly cannot? Some endorsements claim they are business friendly, but wouldn't a small business owner like Mr. Bounavolonta be business friendly?
I read all the endorsements and some seem to not know the candidates at all.
For example, I read a letter from one resident that said the two challengers need more experience before seeking higher office. Mr. Mulligan did not have this, but by endorsements seems to have done well. Mr. Connolly actually has more overall experience in town matters as does Mr. Bounavolonta than either incumbent did before running for TC.
I read another how one person is voting based on help received during Irene. But Mr. Bounavolonta is a fire man so I assume he was giving much aid to many residents that day. It looks like Mr . Connolly is helping many people now who suffered.
It seems it's easy to maintain status quo, but that doesn't always mean improvement cannot be made. Plus, if continuity is the argument there are still 3 sitting members.
So to my original point can an unaffiliated person educate me on what I am not seeing. Why are we better served re-electing two members and not bringing in perhaps one new member?
