The poles are located in what is expected to eventually be center field, making their removal a priority for local planners and engineers.

”Plans and specifications are ready to bid,” Cathleen Marcelli, the township’s engineer, said. “(But) we’re awaiting removal of the utility poles.”

The bidding process remains at a standstill until the problem is resolved, Ms. Marcelli said.

Although PSE&G assessed the removal cost years ago, the township did not revisit the proposal until recently, she said.

”We had an estimate four years ago for $14,000 to remove the poles,” Ms. Marcelli said.
With the fluctuating work force and fuel costs, Ms. Marcelli said, she hopes the estimate will not overshoot the project’s $200,000 budget.

The timeline for seasonal planting expires in early November, so reseeding could be pushed back to as late as next spring, Ms. Marcelli said.

The grass would require a year to take root before it could be played on, committeemember Pari Stave said.
