For the record I also followed up the above post with half a dozen links to resources online to get you started but the forum automatically embargoes posts with lots of links for the administrator to clear and they apparently never did.

I would gladly volunteer to help out if there was the space allocated to build a dog park. There is so much open space here. And really what would it cost to maintain.
I bet the APAW unit in East Windsor would contribute / appreciate and help us.
Anyone wanting to organize this. You have a willing worker bee and three very teenage sons that can help. Just say the word!
I would love to see a dog park and would be willing to help also. Where do we start to make this happen?
Is that really so hard to figure out?
Attend a Township Committee meeting perhaps?
Or do some research about dog parks in general -- online, call local townships that already have then and ask their experience, etc. -- and get some facts about how much they cost to build and maintain and what kind of liabilities they carry, so you can come to the TC meeting already armed with useful information.
I suspect if someone comes to them with the matter already well researched they will certainly give it consideration. And if they don't take it up, follow in the lead of the supporters of a new library and start to raise funds privately.

Mercer County Park, I saw a fenced in area close to the skating rink. that may be one as well.

Is there a nearby dog park in the area already? I'd don't mind driving there.
At least three, between Plainsboro at the park you pass just before the Preserve, in West Windsor at Mercer Community Park, and in Jamesburg. Perhaps others as well.

The post doesn't meet the definition of a Troll. You may not agree with their opinion. But that doesn't make them a Troll.
Actually, it is less of an opinion and more of an insult. Therefore moving it into Troll territory. It is said, "I think a dog park is a bad idea". It would be an opinion and I would agree with you. It describes another's opinion as "nonsense" and tells them to "get a life".
It's a troll.
Trolling isn't synonymous with insulting. A Troll is someone who posts something for the purpose of being provocative, angering and inciting heated debate. The poster usually doesn't believe what they are saying, though that's not a requirement. What matters is they knew their post would engender an emotional response. This person's post came across more as dismissive, albeit in an insulting way, and given the balance of posts already on the topic its not a given they were trying to be provocative or spark more debate as a Troll would.

Now if they had said something like: "We don't need any of those crazy Yuppies coming into our town and wasting more tax dollars on a dog park when that elitist club of TC members is already so corrupt and spending left and right to raise or taxes while everywhere else they are cutting back" that would have been a Troll comment.

The idea of a bark park has been tossed around town for a number of years. It was always a question of would there be enough demand. Interestingly as neighboring communities and Mercer County developed dog parks, it was seen as less of a priority since residents could use the parks of neighboring communities.
The other feature often brought up to add to a park system is a skate park. Periodically the addition of these features is brought up. As of yet, neither has been adopted. I think it has a lot to do with the limited amount of space available in our current parks.

I hope this does not get implemented as it will be just another drain on our meager resources.
No danger of that. It's not even up for discussion except on this anonymous board.
Dont worry - it will be up for discussion soon at the township. There are enough people who want this who are NOT on these boards.
Are you willing to put a wager on this? It doesn't take much to get something considered by the Township so, sure, if anyone really gets off out of their seat and really does something about it, sure. But unless you figure out how to do it without spending a dime, I would bet you anything you'd like that it doesn't pass the committee right now. Perhaps in 2006 when the TC was very comfortable taking on new bond debt and assuming tax revenues would always rise, but not right now where tax rates rise even if the budget is flat and we face the dam, sewers and other necessary work, not happening. I personally have no issue with a dog park, btw, just being realistic.

Post subject: Re: Dog Park
A dog park is like a cocktail party, where you don’t know
anyone and everyone is drunk. You could have fun, but it
could be a disaster.
The problem is most dog parks aren't a safe place to play either. What dogs are going to be there today? Are they trustworthy? Did they come with responsible humans? Are they healthy? Are they fully vaccinated? (Probably a better question than it was a few years ago, considering how reexamining vaccination schedules has turned to questioning vaccinations completely.)
The question regarding responsible humans is probably the most important one. I've been to a few dog parks and what makes me most nervous is how oblivious the people are. It really seems more like a cafe with a playground for dogs than anything else. I fall more toward the "risk taker" end on the dog/dog interaction scale, but...dog park people can be downright insensate.
What's the alternative? You have a few:
Find people you trust that have dogs you trust and set up play dates. You may even be lucky enough to set these dates up at the dog park at off-peak times.
Find a trustworthy day camp run by skilled people that do behavior testing and are willing to let you watch.
Find a dog training school that has an off leash exercise program that is run by dog trainers.
Or, gasp, skip playing with other dogs and just play with him yourself. (Assuming you only have one dog.) It is truly a pleasure watching two (or more) well-matched dogs play, but does your dog really need to play with other dogs to have a completely fulfilled life?

Yes a dog park is really nonsense.. why is that?? Please explain... Why does WEST WINDOR, JAMESBURG, MERCER CNTY PARK, PLAINSBORO - almost every other town have one?? Guess they are nonsense then?? What is nonsense is having all the softball fields in this town!!
