Post subject: Re: Red Light Cameras Coming
Considering red light cameras require a police officer to review each citation and that I know of current TC members who complain about the EW cameras; I doubt red light cameras would come to Cranbury.

TC candidate positions on cameras in a different municipality? And even if they came to Cranbury intersections on state-run roads like Route 130, is that in their purview?

I dont think the camera;s in this state are officially working yet.
Latest on red light cameras in NJ.. it is on hold last I heard since January 2012.
N.J. slams the brakes on controversial red light cameras

I have heard of no one getting tickets for that one in East Windsor either

There are a lot of them, some look like scams though. which ones are really going to make a difference?
This site looks helpful

Smile! yeah right.
Got a ticket in the mail from Reston Virginia, I did not run any traffic light that I can recall, I dont do that. To fight it would cost too much to take off from work, travel down there.
These are just money making opportunities for the towns that deploy them.
So I pay the ticket, but certainly I am not going to smile.
I will sign an petition, vote against any politician that supports these.
Feel free to share if you know where I can help fight these.

There is no excuse for unsafe driving, but then again I feel somewhat the hyprocrite as I find myself at stops to be quckly checking messages. The most horrific accidents leading to loss of life in our immediate area, involving running a traffic light had other factors involved. It was not just someone trying to beat the light.
The cement truck in East Windsor recently for example. Traffic camera would only catch part of the tragedy.
So I think the intent of stopping those deliberately running the traffic lights may be a good cause, but I do not see this being a problem from the roads I have frequented.
And I dont think the occasional horrific accident will be stopped, but if maybe somehow they can be avoided, this is not a bad thing.
Be safe out there and look out for the other numb nuts not paying attention is my recommendation.
And smile for the camera

Post subject: Re: Red Light Cameras Coming
The problem is some of these just don't work correctly. The one in East Windsor on Route 130 is a perfect example. Despite months of time to fine tune it, it appears uselessly uncalibrated, so it constantly goes off at the wrong time. The result as another poster noted is an extreme bright and distracting light. I have had it distract me in my peripheral vision after going through the intersection on a light that wasn't even close to turning yellow. I wasn't worried about it taking my picture because I was already through the intersection but it was distracting. Another time it flashed as I did a left turn on a green turn arrow. I half expected to get a ticket in the mail that I would have had to take the time to dispute but I never did which leads me to believe they know the thing doesn't work right. But what's the point if months later it still doesn't and now they are going to install more without first fixing the ones they have. I have read that people have been very successful in disputing tickets they get with these for exactly the same reason -- that there is a lot of data about them not working properly.
So to the poster above who said nothing to worry about if you don't speed, that's not quite true.

Don't speed through our town and skip through traffic lights and I would say you should not have any problems!
Those that obey the law including traffic rules should not have any fear of having their picture taken.
Even if one of my family members who drives very cautiously had a moving violation caught on camera. Me as the registered vehicle owner has a right and interest to know about this.
So I hope they install these sooner to protect our community. It is not a big deal.

Post subject: Red Light Cameras Coming
I hope it was just a rumor, but I understand there are discussions now at county level for plans to install more red light camera's on US Rte 130 which includes through Cranbury. I am really hoping to not see any of these in Middlesex / Cranbury Area. The one camera in East Windsor is really distracting especially with the visibile light strobe flash in my opinion distracts me when driving. Probably a matter of time before someone locks up their brakes prematurely to avoid fear of a ticket and gets rear ended. This is more likley in NJ with our rather long yellow lights, and non consistant timing of light cycles.
I appreciate the need to enforce and avoid red light runners, but hope this idea does not take off in our town. Ironically a friend of my family sufferred a fatality at the intersection the forementioned red light camera is installed, but was not related to red light running.
This site helps track the propagation of these cameras for awareness:
http://www.photoenforced.com/new-jersey.html
I am not affiliated with this site, but think we need to increase awareness regardless of your position on like or dislike to this idea.
We have only several traffic lights to worry about in Cranbury that I am aware. Again I hope never to see these camera operate in our town.
Does anyone know of more credible definitive news of future red light camera deployment in our area?
Does anyone share or disagree with my opinion?
Sorry if this is not really a news event right now, but I suspect it very well will be soon. And of course then it will be too late to voice your opinion.
