Post subject: Re: Township Committee agenda for September 10, 2007
There is an article in the Cranbury Press today about the meeting. They haven't posted it online yet so I don't have a link.
The gist was nothing new from what's been posted here. The Township said there is little that can be done at this point, that appeals will not result in a "significant" change, that even if the assessments were lower they would still be proportionately similar and result in similar taxes this year, that the budget increase was largely because of a 3 fold increase in therequired Pention payments that had been put off in the past (paying for past sins), and that if they hadn't done the reassessment now they were going to be sued by the rateables and the lawsuit would have cost taxpayers a lot more...
The quoted some people who's taxes went up a lot and someone who also owned a house in West Windsor who said Cranbury is still a great deal...

To late meaning, to late I had already scheduled a meeting. Not to late in terms of time of day, if you read my post. You'll see that is what I am referring to.
Unfortunately, I don't base my schedule on hypotheticals, I did not see an actual agenda until someone posted it here last Thursday or Friday. Not that it would have mattered because I would have skipped it anyway if a client had called that afternoon asking for a meeting.
I did not get home Monday until close to 10pm. It may be nice to be able to set your own schedule and complain that others cannot and therefore just complain and do nothing and say we don't care. And post using simply guest as a name. I'm at least posting with my first name so people can recognize the same poster.
I admitted I did not go because I could not so I was upfront and honest about it. Would I have liked to go? Absolutely. Would it have mattered, probably not and I agree that the TC has most likely already heard a ton.

I did vote.
I am not sure how attending one meeting can change anything. I am sure the TC already got an earful of complains already.
I'll join a weekend protest march if someone can organize one.

I just counted at least 3 different posts here that discussed this meeting including this one...
http://cranbury.info/viewtopic.php?t=1835
...that is over a month old. It has been extensively discussed here for weeks. And it has also been posted on the Township website at least that long. What more do you want in terms of notice?
And I don't understand the logic of it being too late for you if you are a NYC commuter. Most of the City commuters I know leave for the train station between 5-6am and get home by 8pm. Are you saying you get home earlier and the Township should schedule it to accomodate you rather than all those other commuters?
For the record, I agree the Township should be more fiscally responsible and a 17% spending jump is unacceptible, especially on top of the reassessment and considering the discretionary things they seem to be discussing spending on.
I just also think it is typically for people to vent on Boards like this, or at gatherings of friends, but then not really do anything about it. This is not unique to Cranbury. Look at how everyone has an opinion on State and National government affairs but how few actually vote...

I don't buy it. For all the talk about needing to do something, for all the posts of outrage, for all the people who insisted "something has to be done" even though the assessment was long over and done with and even all the posts here discussing this upcoming meeting, for no one who posts here to actually go reflects the deeper truth -- that even as people posted here, people knew it wasn't going to matter, they had already accepted the reality and were just venting. It is a lot easier to post anonymously on this site than to really put yourself out there in-person and do something.
If the tax situation was really so outrageous to you and you really believed there was anything still to discuss, you really couldn't plan around this meeting with a month's notice? And too late? If it had been any earlier people would have complained it was intentionally done too early for commuters...
Your post is funny considering you don't even use a user name.
Second, yes it was too late for me. I work in NY and actually have clients that want to have meetings at the time they set. I did not see an agenda posted until last Friday. So yes, it was too late for me to rearrange a schedule for this meeting.
Yes, I'm outraged at the irresponsability being shown in terms of how they treat our tax dollars- a 17% tax increase on top of the reval is irresponsible. I've also realized that I have to accept my revaluation. However, that does not mean I can't vote against some of the current TC members and vote for someone new who is tax responsible to step in for the future budgets.

I couldn't make the meeting. I wanted to go, but it was too late for me. I think the above poster is right.

Maybe they gave up the hope of being able to change anything. One possibility is to elect a more tax friendly mayor and TC members next year and hope for the best.

Yeah, it's interesting how many people posted complaining about the tax issue for the last two months but there hasn't been a single substantive post about it since the big meeting to address it.
It would be interesting to know of all the people posting about it here how many actually bothered to go.

I hope the Cranburyians who get home late from work will still show up even if it is 8 pm or 8:30 pm. This will show the township committee that the Cranbury Residents are indeed NOT disinterested in what is happening in our Town.
