Yes, that's tough to lose that way. Hopefully, the Mr. Stout and Mr. Stannard will realize how close they came to losing. If they are fiscally responsible in 2008, I will consider this a good outcome. I congratulate all three for a running good clean campaigns.
5-vote lead!

I felt sorry for Art. He had a 5-vote lead before the absentee ballots were counted...

No offense to the source, but I would prefer information from a neutral third party instead of his own campaign site.

If you voted for Art because you aren't happy with the current administration, why of the other two did you vote for the standing Mayor and therefore leader of the current administration?
It's a tough decision.
I trust engineers/scientists more than lawyers. It's my personal bias. In addition, I hope Mr. Stout can keep his words published in this Cranbury Press article:
Quote:
The mayor says that open space and farmland preservation, as well as historic preservation, are important issues for him. He says that Cranbury has been very successful at preserving open space, and hopes to continue to preserve these areas.
Mr. Stout also lists traffic safety as a focus for him in the township, and says that it is important for the town to maintain diligence to keep its residents safe.
In addition, Mr. Stout says that fiscal responsibility will be one of his main issues.
”We need to continue to do things smart and for less, with transparency, safety, as well as good customer service,” he said.
Mr. Stout said he will continue to look for alternate ways to secure money through grants and other aid to offset the property tax burden on residents. He said he will work to separate the town’s needs from wants, to keep taxes as low as possible.

I'm just voting for Art. Let whoever gets the second seat get it. But, I'm only voting for one candidate.

"In Cranbury, voters will cast ballots on two, three-year Township Committee seats."
question?

Two TC members are up for election. If I vote for Art and he is elected, will there be one TC seat vacant?

The only problem with those statements is that the two TC members running for relecetion have been around for at least part of what they are saying they had no control over. The only people who could say they had no control would be ones that were newly elected only last year or if they had been nominated to replace someone. Mr. Stanndard and Stout have been TC members long enough to have blame assigned they could have planned and limited expenses to negate the 17% increase. Improper planning plus increased spending is why there was a 17% increase.
We can vote for those who drove up the tax rate with irresponsible spending- Ball Field, growth in town employees, etc... Or show our disapproval and vote for new blood. To say you'd vote for the current TC members means you're okay with all the spending that has occurred over the last year or two. That's fine, but I am not.
I am voting for Art as he did show he was responsible fiscally the last time he was in and he is not part of the current group.

Both are true. The deferred debt accumulated and ignored by previous TC members is a big factor in the 17% tax increase this year and that is not the fault of the current Council. But continuing to spend on new measures like the Babe Ruth field is their responsibility. The previous post said nothing in support of the current Council. This isn't a George Bush mentality of "if you're not with me, your against me." We can critique something without endorsing another.

What's good about the current TC members? Are they pushing for efforts to reduce unnecessary spending and hence reducing property tax? Where is the money for the building the Babe Ruth baseball field?
You seems to imply that the tax increase is due to the debt incurred during the years that the current TC members do not have control over.

I agree with you. Turning the assessment into a campaign issue is political cynicism at its worst. First, because they are playing on a hotbed issue even though there is nothing they will be able to do about it. Second, because as you say, the problem is not the assessment but the overall tax rate which is related to spending and debt. Debt, by the way, that was built up and deferred in the previous terms that one of the candidates push the re-assessment issue is bragging about having served during. A classic political response. A person is in power when the real problem was propagated then jumps on the bandwagon against the problem using the bogus reason…

Post subject: Re: Voters get say on on Tuesday
I so tired of the junk mail in my mailbox.
What did I read today from the Republican nominee?
A letter that starts out with sarcasm, and then some capitalization in there as well - like someone is yelling at me.
Then it goes on to say that the building on the Wright Property was a "perfectly good building", meanwhile it a piece of garbage with no insulation, hardly any heat, broken glass, sitting on top of land that was contaminated. It was a warehouse! Sure, put 200K into it, and you could have had a perfectly good building, probably still kinda ugly, but functional. But not everyone going to vote will remember that. I am glad it's gone, and I am sure many others are as well.
I also read something about "accessed" unfairly, wondering if it should have read "assessed" unfairly.
And we can go back to "the way it used to be"....which was when? Before MacMansions were built? Because those were built in the 90's, right? And now we have to pay a ton of money to build (or "sell") affordable housing - just because of all the development than happened years ago. Maybe we can go back to that.
And earlier this week I got a letter from the Democrats. Well, they praise themselves how good they are in communicating with the public, and that things will be resolved in a timely manner. I wonder if was their good communication skills that lead to the surprise that many of us got when we received out final tax bill. The township website is difficult to get around for anyone looking for information (just look at the delay until the minutes are posted). The Cranbury Press is not a good source of reliable information at all, and sorry, but many of us spend some time commuting, so it's really hard for us to go to township committee meetings. A good website would be awesome! And what is this about timely manner? Whenever this township sets out to do something, it takes forever. And getting any good and timely answers is almost impossible.
Now about the assessment (and then I shut up). I am quite happy with my assessment. It's the tax rate that sucks! And the tax rate is as high as it is, because the budget is that high. So, we can spend (or should I say waste?) money to re-assess the whole town again (and assessments will come down), and then the tax rate will be even higher if the budget stays the same. But we wasted money on another assessment. Makes sense?
So, that being said, maybe next year we can have a candidate on the ballot that will tell us - without all the BS, and the finger-pointing, and the telling us half-truths - what their plans are. That would be sweet. But this year I don't like of the candidates.
Frankly, I think it would be awesome to have an independent voice on the TC. Maybe even someone that is retired and has more time than current TC members to spend on important issues.
But that will never happen....
