The main gist of the non-binded referendum is the signatures of 10% of the elegible voters based on those registered for the previous election. I don't know the exact # but I believe about 100 would do it. It has to be related to something the TC can take action on. And it has to get approved to be put on at least 60 days before the election it will be attached to.
However, Win Cody suggested in his remarks that some other towns have organized less official main ballots. I would think even a private organization could do this without any regulations or resstrictions because it is unofficial, and therefore could be done much more quickly. It would have none of the assurances that it there was no fruad, etc., but does that really matter? If you have only 1,000 voters and some private party manages to get our mailing list (or a close approximate of it) and gets 600 signatures back identified with individual addresses, since it is non-binding that would still be a pretty powerful message. |

I did appreciate Ms Stave notifying the community that a referendum could be placed on any issue; such as the PNC purchase. It was too late on this issue, but it's nice to know that this is an option for the future. Makes me feel better knowing that there is something in place to help our town out with "checks and balances" - even though it is a nonbinding voting process. |

my comments were for the other poster on this thread, not you "Cranbury Conservative" I didnt mind having both of our polls going on at same time at all. Outcome was same in both so it validated the sentiment of our township and was a good sampling.
Were you there when Pari educated the town about how to initiate a non-binding referendum vote that can be started by a resident or by the TC? I didn’t have the opportunity to write down the rules, can someone with full details post it here in the forum? I think there is a place for both types of methods to get a pulse of the township in the future. |

Thanks for putting in the effort for the online poll for which I did vote in and give my personal information to you. I however have to say that I personally prefer anonymous polls which may not be as accurate; however I believe they can give an indication of the pulse of the community without pressuring people to disclose who they are. That is why I did my unscientific / anonymous poll on my blog and posted the results here.
Once again thank you for your efforts. |

THE RESULTS: 100% of the Cranbury homeowners voted against the purchase of the PNC in the original and nonbinding vote that started this thread. To avoid any stuffing of the ballot and for auditing purposes I required the resident to submit his address.
The polling questions are very valid and I even allowed anyone to add their own comment to the vote. Sometime a YES/NO is not enough info and I'm sorry you feel the polling questions are invalid but show me what polling item was inaccurate. Was there too much data on the ballot for you? or would you rather vote with a simple Y/N not knowing the consequences of your vote? or what you are exactly supporting - I would rather have it spelled out clearly and thats what I tried to do with this poll.
So the RESULTS were clear. The voice of cranbury was unanimous and all voted NO and against the purchase of the PNC. Its all auditable and avail if anyone has questions on the results. |

If you’re interested I have put an anonymous simple yes / no poll for the PNC purchase on my Blog located at ....
http://cranburyconservative.blogspot.com
The poll is on the left hand side of the page.
I thought it would be fun to see how many people voted in this un-scientific and as stated earlier anonymous pole.
Enjoy! |

You can find the members emails at http://cranburytownship.org/twp_committee.html
I emailed all of them and Mr. Wittman acknowledged receipt of my email. So I know his email is active. There was no response from the other TC members so I am not sure if they received my email or not. |

Where do we get the emails for the TC members? |

I believe this is just a resident trying to gather some info. I don't think the TC will get to see the results or even care about the results.
The official way is still sending your comments to Township Clerk Kathleen Cunningham at twpclerk@cranbury-nj.com.
The best way to voice your opinion is to attend the meeting on May 19th. |

Who is asking for this information? And how do we know if this will be presented to the TC? I don't want to give an unknown entity my personal information - like my address. |

Oh, please... The wording on that survey is ridiculous... far from a neutral point of view. The results of this survey will be meaningless.
Here's another one... How do you feel about this website:
A) I like it alot
B) I absolutely love it.
C) I don't like it because the content is so interesting, it distracts me from my work. |

Exactly. A bit annoying to vote but then not have access to the results. |
