Corrected Info: For Memorial Day, CHPS will have a float in the parade that begins at 1PM on Main Street. Company H, 14th NJ Volunteers (Civil War re-enactors) will hold their annual memorial service at the Civil War Soldiers Monument in Brainerd Cemetery behind the 1st Presbyterian Church Cranbury. The service is planned for 11:00 AM. The original Company 14th NJ Vols was organized by Capt. Symmes Henry Stults of Cranbury in August of 1862. The Company was composed of mostly men from Cranbury but also volunteers from Hightstown, Jamesburg, Dayton and Plainsboro. The Civil War Soldiers Monument, dedicated August 1, 1866, was one of the very early monuments to Civil War dead in New Jersey. Out of a total of 66 names of soldiers killed during the war engraved on the monument, 22 are from Company H. The re-enactors of Company H travel to many Civil War battle re-enactments during the year representing a very important part of Cranbury's history. The Society plans a reception and Memorial Day cookout at the museum after the parade to recognize the work Company H has done for our community.
