It's after 4:00 PM and the library still has its opinion and talking points from the library blog on the front page of the library web site. http://www.cranburylibrary.org/
Can you stop the whining please? I have no objection to what the library does. Are these not facts about our library? Why shouldn't they be posted on the front page? The more info we have, the better going into tonight's meeting. I am not for buying the PNC building at all. For all the reasons stated. But I don't like that you are making such a big deal about the library's post. It's quite annoying :!: I doubt that your multiple updates will change the library's decision to post it on their front page. I appreciate your post on the board over here, because without it, I would not have looked at the library's blog.
Please....stop to whine about this. There is a difference between a message board (this one), and comments to a blog post. Plus I am too tired to explain this in further detail.
Is there a problem with comment moderation on the library's blog?

Sorry - new to both message boards and blogs. I don't have a problem with moderation - I had not seen it before (again, new!)
I love the library and the staff and think they do a great job.
Moving on...

I agree - we need to move on from the PNC Bank and refocus on COAH and consolidation issues that could negatively effect our town. We need to take control of our towns destiny and come up with some sort of plan (plan a, plan b, plan c, etc) rather than a "wait and see" attitude.

Agreed the Library issue had legs before PNC was defeated, however now it is a moot point.
We need to focus on the following 3 issues going forward....
Issue #1 COAH
Issue # 2 Consolidation:
Issue # 3 Taxes (Property Taxes)

I have to agree. There are many solid message boards with good moderators. There is no issue that the messages are reviewed prior to posting. Let's all support the library and staff and recognize the good they are doing.

I found it interesting that, unlike this blog, where comments are posted immediately, the library blog has their comments "moderated" before posting.

Very happy to have been wrong. It looked like it was going to go exactly like I predicted (i.e. they claimed it was a vote just to continue discussion but dodged the question about whether there would be another opportunity for public comment in response to the further fact finding before they voted to act and they claimed there were going to get the facts despite also claiming they didn't have a stated purpose for the property which are incompatible statements since you can't get operational and renovation costs without a purpose). But one Democrat voted against it, thus restoring some of my faith in the party and the TC.

Let's just go tonight and put in out 2 cents. I think there is enough opposition as it is.
I'll have to skeptically disagree on that one. I think the TC has already made up its mind and tonight is just for show. They have assured there are a reasonable # of supporters in the audience so even with all those going to speak against it they will be able to claim that there is "broad support." Of course not broad enough for them to risk putting it to an open vote of registered voters, but enough so they can dodge an outright claim of acting against the interests of the electorate...
And to further cloak their decision, I predict they will end up voting for something nebulously positive, such as an agreement to enter “discussions” with PNC about a “possible” acquisition, as opposed to a formal resolution to buy it. Then that will quickly lead to formal negotiations and when all that is done they will call an emergency session, without another chance for public comment, and actually approve the purchase in closed session, stating the sensitivity of the ongoing negotiations as their pretense, and we will only find out about it after the fact. Then they will claim that once they got to the negotiation stage time was of the essence, as was secrecy, so they had to act in the interests of the Township and based on the support they received at the meeting tonight…
We’ll see. But if it comes to pass even remotely like this, note that this was posted an hour before the meeting started. And everything I have listed is an incredibly cynical way to approach it, completely incompatible with good public policy or service. So if it does go down like this, you can rest assured your TC is full of politicians first and interested public servants a distant last… I hope I am wrong.

The issue seems to be that the library putting out these facts on the the homepage just before the meeting tonight. It's odd, don't you think so?
So, the library is banking on the fact that a lot of people are going onto the site to read it? Then why not put it up 10 days ago? And why bring more attention to it by starting this thread?
Let's just go tonight and put in out 2 cents. I think there is enough opposition as it is.
Btw, Twp. should be happy anyway, looks like ballfield construction is in full swing. The million dollar field of dreams....coming soon.

I have to agree with stop the whining on this one. I have been a vocal opponent to the PNC acquisition and very critical, fairly so I believe, of the TC. So when I first read this discussion I was ready to be pretty upset if they posted some opinion piece all fluffy about the value of a new stand-alone library. But this seems overblown. The Blog has been up for a while and the only thing new, I guess, is the position on the page. If you actually go into the blog you will see they are allowing critical comments as well. We have a lot to rightly be up in arms about but focusing on this just makes us look petty or paranoid. I don't say this to belittle all those who have posted here. I think the TC's action just have us all on edge...

The library homepage added a "Comment and Suggestion Box" now.
I am puzzled that the library idea did not seem to be the main push for the purchase according to this Cranbury Press article:
http://www.packetonline.com/articles/2008/05/16/cranbury_press/news/doc482d9611bb8b0887995139.txt
And yet the library is pushing hard to buy the site.

If the library committee decides that a new library is needed and the location shall be on the PNC site (abandoning the township's original plan), then I think Cranbury taxpayers deserve a public vote on this issue.

From what I understand, the library does not pay rent to the school. If there is a $90,000 excess of funds each year, the library could pay $90,000 "rent" to the school which would reduce the school budget and lower the tax impact of the recent $1 Million spending increase by the school. This method keeps in the spirit of the library funding law and is fair.
