Post subject: Re: What's the next step for the garbage proposal?
I think a lot of the TC bashing was due to the way Stout, Stave and Stannard operated and not specifically what it is they supported or tried to do. For one, they were intensely political, stacking board positions only with single party supporters whereas in the past (and from what I have heard already planned for the new majority) there was more non-partisanship or by-partisanship. Or the way they went out of their way to support state officials who did nothing for the Township because of party affiliation but not other state representatives who supported the Township. Or the way they handled the three attempts at PNC site acquisition which was so not transparent. Or the way Stout would try to manipulate the public discussions by allowing people who supported his position to speak multiple times but not those who opposed him.
Whether I agree or disagree on a given issue, I can respect someone who takes a stand if they do so completely above-the-board. This group was just too heavy handed and political. Looking forward to ALL the TC members next year, regardless of party affiliation, working more transparently and together.

I am not bashing anybody. I am saying having a vote to have a vote is wierd. I have never heard of such a thing.
Are there other examples of municipalities voting to have a vote?

For those bashing the TC, how many meetings do you go to? At every meeting there is open comment for those to voice a view before action is taken. As someone who does attend the meetings on a good night there are maybe 5 residents in the audience who are all the same people. The TC during the public comment period hopefully considers the points raised by the public in making a decision. I know changes were made recentely to an ordinance because a resident did speak up and raise points the TC did not consider. However, by your logic of the TC doing it alone no comment would be considered.
I see a referendum such as this in the same light. It is an opportunity for the whole town to offer their say during a public comment period. For those complaining I think you're either the same poster congratulating yourself or just looking to start issues or upset that the majority wants to look at trash collection so you're bashibg the TC. I encourage everyone to come to meetings and then maybe the TC would not need to have people vote on something that impacts them.

I also am very happy as the trash referendum and the TC vote itself showed the attitude of the posters on this board is not that of the majority of residents.
Why do you say this?
Both sides of the discussion on this site were represented pretty well. If you assume the number of comments are representative of the number of posters that would be a mistake.

Sad, Honest and True. The TC needs to look in the mirror.

This question on the ballot shows a distinct lacks of guts on the part of the TC. The way it should work it they look into the question based on their authority as the TC, and then put a meaningful question to the Town about "Should Cranbury contract with WMI to provide garbage collection service for $X a month?"
I hope Dan and Glen bring some much needed decisiveness to the TC.
I voted for both and am very happy in the outcome...

Why would anyone want to run for TC in this town? When Mayor Stout and Mayor Stave showed they made decisions they were called arrogant and not in tune with the town. When the TC says let's get a guage of resident interest in something it is that the TC is indecisive. It seems to me that some people are just looking for things to complain about. What would have happened if the TC went to bid and said we're doing garbage collection. How many people would be complaining about the TC making decisions without resident input.
Let's remember two years ago Win ran on referendum, last year all four candidates ran on referendum and as of 1/1/2011 all 5 will be on the TC. I applaude them for seeking resident input.
I also am very happy as the trash referendum and the TC vote itself showed the attitude of the posters on this board is not that of the majority of residents.

I agree they were cowed by a small vocal group. The ballot question to have a ballot question is laughable.

Isn't the process that they will now do more detailed competitive bidding, then put a second vote on the ballot to approve or not the actual service? Unless they do a special election, which wouldn't make sense, wouldn't the next one be for the municipal budget and school board next Spring?

Now that the voting is done. What's the next step? When do we expect it to happen?
