Elmo says sorry. Elmo was looking for his escaped hampster with friend Cookie Monster. Then Cookie got hungry so we asked about local restaurants. Sorry about our disguises, too, but even muppets have to worry about paparazzi.

Hamster tax.
Can you call it a gerbil and use that as a loophole?

No hamster tax please! I have two cute ones at home.
Seriously, a better approach is to pretend you work for a religious group trying to covert people to their faith, or a survey taking company asking for opinions. But I doubt that these folks are that sophisticated.

Post subject: PRESS RELEASE: Suspicious Activity
DATE: 07/01/2009
SUBJECT: Suspicious Activity
SUBMITTED BY: Chief Edward L. Kahler III
...
A male and female driving a blue, possibly a greenish blue sport utility vehicle approached a Plainsboro Road resident and asked if the homeowner was selling hamsters. The same pair reportedly asked a homeowner on Maplewood Avenue if they knew of any local eateries.
Although such activity may seem innocent at the time, please contact the police department
immediately. It is common for burglars to knock on the door to see if anyone is home.
Thank you for your cooperation.
