Lt. Dillane was with With the Mayor and he was not on duty. He was there to answer questions residents might have about Cranbury, and which were best answered by the police department. 2nd, I saw the other 2 officers as I also had breakfast at that time. I don't know where 90 minutes came from. I didn't time them or my meal, but I don't believe it was 90 minutes. Finally, I MUCH prefer our officers eating in town during their break then going to East Windsor. We should all be glad that the officers are encouraged to take their lunches at our local establishments. Community policing is a style of police work embraced by many towns and even cities nationwide. By most accounts I\'ve read or heard Chief Varga and his officers are doing a great job. Very rarely does a person who comments negatively about an officer eating a meal comment positively when an officer goes above and beyond his regular duties. Some people don\'t realize that Cranbury is not unlike all other towns. Many times I see them abruptly get up, leave their meals, and answer calls. They are not guaranteed an interrupted meal break.The purpose behind them having a rather consistent daily presence in Teddy's is to interact with the community. Whether you like it or not Teddy's has been an unofficial hub for Cranbury dating back to when it opened in 1972. Generations of residents and police officers have interacted there for over 40 years. This dates back to the days of Marvin Dey, Ken Logan, Harry Kleinkauf, and Bill Maxwell. I understand your frustration with your falsely conceived notion of somehow trying to quantify the officers time the same way that time is quantified by corporate America- but you need to understand that being a police officer is not a manufacturing or production job. First as the TC has pointed out they work 12 hour shifts. So that means they are on duty for just over 3 days before going off. <br /> <br />Let's assume 3.5 days (increases the number). 3.5 times 1.5 (90 minutes) though I doubt the 90 minute number. Even so that is 5.25 hours a week. Times 52 weeks is 273 a year or 13%. If they take an hour break as is more realistic then we're talking 3.5 times 52 weeks or 182 hours 9% of the time. That assumes no sick day or vacation. <br /> <br />At worst for you they are spending 13% of their personal (lunch or breakfast) time in town not Monroe or Plainsboro. Spending money at our businesses instead of bringing lunch or breakfast or at delis or restaurants in other towns. Spending time speaking with our residents. Spending time being visible in town. All done during their lunch hour. <br /> <br />In my view our businesses would be rich if every resident and worker in Cranbury adopted this philosophy. <br /> <br />Now, you may not see an officer.
