Usually when route 130 is backed up it is because of an accident. The local police are responsible for route 130. There are only 2 or 3 of them working. When route 130 is backed up it is likely that the police are on route 130 handling an accident. A police presence does not deter people from frequenting down town businesses. Just the opposite. People feel safe when they see the police |

If anything a police presence should attract people as they know they can leave briefcases or other items in their car. I don't think anyone says I won't go shop in xyz town because I want to speed or text and I won't be able to in xyz.
If we had metered parking and wrote parking tickets then perhaps it would have merit because in Princeton I know if your only a couple minutes over you get a ticket.
I'd like to see Cranbury have the same reputation for speeding as Hightstown. |

Someone mentioned in another thread like this one that police presence will affect local business: drivers might avoid the area. |

Yes, but that was clearly the post, as it was quoted in the reply, that I was referring to. |

From your previous post: "...Most of the time it's the parents dropping of their kids to school that I notice are the worst." |

No I didn't mention local parents at all. There are now many ,many, folks from the warehouse district on the east side of 130 that frequent the shops in Cranbury. I don't mean to be unwelcoming to them but it would be nice if they, as well as the locals would simply observe the no cell phone rules in the interest of public safety. Our police department could be helpful in accomplishing that goal. |

The worst times are during rush hour, when Route 130 is backed up with people who continue straight either past Plainsboro or past Old Trenton which would rarely be residents. The peek times for parents on Main Street is 8-8:30am and 3-3:30pm and that's not when you see the most speeders.
I see this traffic every day. You always see people on their cell phones everywhere. Would love to see more people ticketed for this. But I haven't noticed it being any worse with local parents than the general population. You seem like you have a chip on your shoulder about local parents. |

Agreed on the cell phone use. Any day you can see obvious disregard for the ban on cell phone use while driving . Main Street is a classic example of that disregard for the law. The other day I saw a driver on a cell phone make a u turn in front of Cranbury Pizza and just about slammed into a car pulling out of a parking spot near the Bagel Shop.I think it is about time for officers on foot patrol to start enforcement before we have a casualty. |

Most of the time people drive reasonably on Main Street. Most of the speeders seem to be not locals who cut through Main Street during bad rush hour traffic on Route 130. This has been going on for years. I haven't noticed it any particularly worse now and if you do a search I bet you would fine similar posts here every year or two. Not the first time people have brought it up as if it's a new or worsening problem.
It would seem that, knowing the root problem is Route 130 back-ups, the local police could easily time when to hang out and issue some tickets. |

It seems as though the speeding issue in town is getting worse. I am glad that recently I have seen a higher police presence downtown.[/u] |
