Once the field gets fixed or redone, It needs at least 2 whole growing seasons before you can play on it. So whatever they do with it, It probably will not be ready to be played on until 2012 or 2013 depending if the recreation department gets it fixed this year. It's a big waste if you ask me.
Why 2 growing seasons? To let the grass grow strong??? I can think of a 100 other projects that should have been done before this ballfield.
What a waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, White Elephants are truly a wast of money. And grant money is free because it grows on trees, and therefore we don't have to worry, right?

Does this mean Cranbury residents have to pay a fee to play?

Cranbury residents have every right to complain about this mismanaged project.

The March 19, 2009 Recreation Commission meeting minutes have been posted.
http://www.cranburytownship.org/rec_minutes031909.pdf
...
Regulation Baseball Field, Field Issues
1. Beth will send an e-mail to Pari Stave, Mayor, to let the Township know that the Commission would like Ed Sekelsky to represent the Commission in meetings with the Township, Engineer and Contractor. In the past, the Commission hasn’t received much information from the Township regarding the baseball field. Ed Sekelsky also stated that he had sent to the Township in December 2008 a punch list of what the Commission had wanted done to the field. –
2. The Commission would also like a punch list of what the Contractor still needs to do, and any deadlines that they have to adhere to. Dawn will follow up and get these from the Township as soon as they are available.
3. The Commission had a few questions for Christine Smeltzer, Township Administrator. Christine Smeltzer stated that if the Commission had any questions concerning the fields they should contact Jerry Thorne. She also stated that Hatch Mott MacDonald is checking on the Contractor to make sure he’s doing what he should be with the field. She also stated that the punch list is being prepared by Cathy Marcelli, Township Engineer, Hatch Mott MacDonald; and Jeff Graydon, Township Zoning Officer.
4. The Commission would like Jeff Graydon to attend the next Meeting. Dawn will invite Jeff.
Regulation Baseball Field Fees – The Commission would like Dawn to present the fee schedule for the new ball field to the Clerk for the Township Committee to approve.

it would be great to have a nice ballfield just for pick-up and school games. Get rid of the fence and have families come out and play....just for fun!

So we have a ballfield built almost entirely with county money that will be open for all Cranbury kids to enjoy. And this is a scandal? A product of some secret, hidden, unspoken agenda?
I thought the unspoken agenda had more to do with what DID NOT get built on that site.
I think the county money is all but spent at this point....and the ballfield is a mess.....where is the money coming from for all the extras and other stuff. When are we getting lights!
The county money was all spent on the field. The town is out of pocket for any additional expenses.
