But no need for the insult in my rush to try and get something out that was informational. I am very concerned about the lake so have been paying attention and attend a few TC meetings where this was addressed. To get to the point where the dam was lowered and water drained my understanding was it took two years. To do the testing necessary to dredge and then complete the process of permitting is 3-4 years. Thus the work did not align from what I understand from different TC meetings. Further at this time the rateables were dropping so my guess is the TC not knowing what the full dam repair would cost decided not to take on a ton of projects.

I understand the permitting may have been difficult, but not impossible I would think, but that next statement sounds like a Hillary speech. The TC tried, but the permitting process was lengthy and testing the same process was detailed which did not align with the dam repairs. Plus, the cost was still in the millions and I am not sure the town could have taken on all of this at the same time financially. I agree the lake is an important piece of our history and town and needs to be taken care of. I just wonder between the 3-5 million I heard and affordable housing how we'll make it work.

As the bottom sediments build higher over the years the depth decreases, allowing sunlight to reach the bottom. Once that occurs vegetation growth starts. That vegetation will eventually create small islands of grass much like a marsh. Unfortunately this is referred to as the beginning of the end for a lake, unless corrected by increasing the depth of the water.

The TC has begun exploring the dredging which will be very costly and a lengthy permitting process. However, they are doing an annual maintenance plan with herbicide treatments that can only be applied at certain times. That is what the announcements are. They did do a lake clean up a couple of years ago where they raked the lake and vegetation.

Given the lake's depth and the area of nutrient rich land that drains into it, it's unlikely that the vegetation will be kept down for long. This will be a routine maintenance issue I'd guess. I don't think recent treatments are necessarily failures.

I thought they spent money trying to get at the root cause. If so, what does whoever did the work have to say about the result?
