This dirt which is actually being dregged right now in NY harbor by the Ambros light will be used to fill in the existing site.  They (the applicant) say the dirt will be safe as they will clean it before adding it to the site.  The good news is we have local ordnance which prohibits dirt being brought in from outside Cranbury (just for reasons such as this).  So in order to move forward the applicant would need a waiver. 
 
Last night when I spoke at the meeting I said we should then consider to not allow  this dirt to be brought in to our town as our ordinance as defined says they cannot.  Further reason as to why we definitely should not consider this dredged dirt from NY harbor is that it is contaminated and this site has both the Millstone river and Cranbury Brook running though it and if the professionals were wrong about this dirt and it was unsafe these two water ways would be damaged.  Because the negative impact of this contaminated dirt would then affect everyone downstream.  For instance the Millstone cuts through south Main Street, Old Cranbury road (my road), shadow oaks and then out to the swim club and Cranbury Brook cuts right through the heart of our community.

With that I am concerned we will be looking back on this dirt being brought into the township in 10 or 20 years and we will be saying "Well if we only knew then what we know now".

The next meeting is June 17 for this issue.  I highly recommend anyone and everyone attends and voices their concerns about this contaminated dirt being brought into Cranbury Township.  Because we do not want to look back years from now as I said above and say "If we only knew then what we know now".[/quote]
