South Asians do not want amenities or outside area to play - the school impact will be far greater than 17 children - the BIGGER a issue is that the town is setting a precedent by rewarding the property owners by letting their buildings decay, not kept up, not demolished - now they get a payday for neglecting their property. For this plan to come to fruition the town has to condemn the road/ sell to the developer. They still have the lynchpin with the right of way of old Cranbury road which is owned by the town. Keep vigilant so the town gets what we need!

Let's add some more based on current zoning board decisions here and elsewhere:
- another house of worship which brings in people and no revenue- we already approved two in areas not thought possible. Why is a third unlikely?
- apartment complex such as in Princeton- their board fought it hard and had to ultimately grant the variances. We have the same board attorney.
- drug and alcohol treatment facility- as we saw the case is on us to prove there is no merit.
As the town's planner explained at the meeting there is really minimal difference between this and the 2010 master plan. What he did not say is with this the town has the right to negotiate and discuss architectural elements that cannot be discussed during a zoning application and which would remove town control. So we have much greater control and negotiated a decrease in density and other items.

The people we heard last week at the planning board meeting try to say their worry is the the school impact when really they are racist who are scared people from Indian will move in and take over. Listen carefully to the words they use at the next planning board or town council meeting. Notice who these people are that are against this project because they are the racist of Cranbury. When they speak of School impact they really mean they do not want Indians moving in. Shame on them. We are a progressive town and this project will bring much needed diversity to Cranbury.
How do you know this? How do you know what their worry really is? How do you know they are racist? This is only your perception. Shame on YOU for calling people racist when you have no facts to back this up. This project and the school impact and quality of life issues that this brings are real and legitimate concerns, regardless of who the people are that move here. The Indian people that I know personally, plus many that I know of, are good citizens and contribute to the town, and their being here is a very welcome addition. And "much needed diversity"???? Apparently you don't get out much because Cranbury is diverse.

Do you have a local stat to back up that claim? I have three kids in the district who between them have a lot of friends of Indian heritage. And neighbors too. Off hand I can't think of any of them that have more kids than we do. But I know many non-Indian families with more kids in town. I don't think your generalization matches the demographic realities in our town.

Finally an honest posting here. "South Asians" That is the political correct way of saying they do not want Indian people moving in like West Windsor. The people we heard last week at the planning board meeting try to say their worry is the the school impact when really they are racist who are scared people from Indian will move in and take over. Post subject: Re: A notice of change in time for the 10/12 Township Committee meeting and more
This is all false info.
There is no condemenation.
With zoning there is no negotiation a developer can do what they want and be granted or denied a variance if needed. If denied they can appeal to the court and the town spends tons of money - see how we ended up with four seasons. With redevelopment the town can negotiate which they did and be part of the plan.
I find the reference made offensive. However, in West Windsor the town houses which were less expensive have less than one kid per home. Why would Cranbury have more kids when when the homes cost more have no basement, fence, etc...west windsor is more attractive in that regard.
Even with 1 kid per home you have 50 kids, not a big deal.
I see this as good for the town. The last residential property of size is taken out of service. We get the property developed, the design is high end, etc...

This post is funny because there is always some alarmist post. People threaten to move and don't, people scream how bad everyone who supports it is, but then don't voice a view. I wish when the Cheney property was using WW 2 POWs this site existed I am sure this site would have been pages long.
The master plan in discussion for this area was totally revised in 2010 from the prior master plan. In other words the master plan can and does change based upon time, circumstances and planning. It is not a concrete document.
There will be 54 high end town homes and combination use. There will be minimal apartments. This is not that far off of the master plan especially when one considers that the 54 units are much higher quality than what would have gone in and have restrictions such as no basements, fences, etc...all that add kids.
As a Cranbury native it always surprises me that the last ones in want to shut the door.
I have been here long enough to know better. If our relationship with Princeton were to ever be at risk it would have happened when Cranbury Green went in. Our taxes did go up because there was no commercial offset, but the school relationship survived just fine. When Wynnwood went in people complained, when the estates went in people complained and when we lost the farm when Evans went in people complained. I think some people are still crying about shadow oaks.
While I am cynical that we'll have just a couple of kids, I strongly doubt we'll have the panic that the alarmists seem to think will come.
What everyone forgets is that this could be a huge church, affordable housing apartment complex, or low end town houses priced for starter families, or partly developed so there is no consistency. Then those complaining would be irate and we'd be stuck with the mess their complaints left us with.
Part of being an old timer is I have seen all this and learned long ago people panic and that fear they breed never happens.

Post subject: Re: A notice of change in time for the 10/12 Township Committee meeting and more
please read the fiscal projections.
a net gain of money to the town of 22K per year?? thats the return we get for this kind of huge growth in our town?? And 200K to the school district, which is questionable at best given the number of residential units.
and for all that jhuge huge return, we get a big box drug store, a large bank, a strip center and lots of apartment type condos.
great plan...NOT!
lesson learned, when the town plays with the Master Plan, we need to go to the meetings and pay very close attention. at this point, we are stuck with this cause its too late in the process.
live and learn?? well for me, its probably, live and move while i still can...
