This will be fought by Cranbury as always, and we’ll win again! We’ve demonstrated to the idiots in Trenton that we know how to run our town. Both the school board and township committee have been more fiscally responsible than the state over the past 10 years. As to the poster who thinks shared services for public works and police would save us money, think again. We are a drop in a rain storm to any municipality around here. They’d love to have our money, but when it comes to delivering, we’d get last looks. Jerry runs a tight department, and our DPW guys do a great job. Chief Varga and his officers are excellent and go out of their way to get to know the community. You’re not go to get that with shared services. Cranbury needs to remain independent!
The difference in the past is they said they would review districts or townships case-by-base. What is proposed now is a blanket forced elimination of all school districts that are not K-12. They seem to be trying to bypass debate on the individual merits by sweeping up the good with the bad, and focusing all their talking points on the bad districts.
But, yeah, who knows. Since Trenton rarely actually gets anything done this may be another empty suit of a proposal.
The indivisible candidates Barbara Rogers and Eman El Baldwin for township committee blindly follow Governor Murphys plan
Proof? I've seen no statement from any of the candidates supporting this plan. Do you have a link to one?
Sounds like a good question for candidates debate night. Normally questions about state politics are not relevant but in this case it is.

Maybe Jay, who has been wonderful as a major could run for State Senate. That would be a welcomed change that Trenton needs. Jay knows how to play both sides of the isle so well.

That is absolutely a horrible idea. The police are critical to the town. SB and Monroe have policing issues. So if we merge then our policing and traffic measures would all disappear. The money would be spent on those towns.
Public works is the same. Jerry our head is always driving through town looking at things. You put that with another town and we have nothing.
We already share the court, dispatch and PW equipment with other towns. That is about the extent we want. If you look at the budgets of other towns you see the bigger the town the more costly the operations. It is a fallacy that bigger means savings.

Post subject: Governor wants to eliminate the Cranbury School District
Here we go again. Every Governor raises the idea of forcing small school districts to merge and the current one has called it a "cornerstone" of his plan.
https://patch.com/new-jersey/eastwindsor/s/gv4ot/big-move-on-plan-to-eliminate-nearly-300-nj-school-districts?utm_source=alert-breakingnews&utm_medium=email&utm_term=schools&utm_campaign=alert
It's too bad that the NJ media never challenges all the false claims that these proposals are based on with actual facts. Every single justification for this plan are a straight-up lies.
They claim it will save money. Yet the larger districts often spend more per student than ours, so there's no evidence this is true. All it leads to is more administration, more busing, etc.
They claim it will improve the quality of education. This was is laughable. Compare our stats to the larger districts around us.
They claim it will force more shared serves. Yet Cranbury has been successfully doing shared services for decades.
They claim it will reduce property taxes. But any of our immediate neighbors have less efficient property taxes than we do, so all it would do is force us to subsidize them.
So the real plan is to force communities like Cranbury to pay for their neighbors and settle for worse schools. It's such a transparent money grab marketed as the opposite.
