Recycle Shed Closed on April 3rd The Recycle Shed at the DPW Yard, Cranbury, NJ, will be closed April 3rd due to COVID-19 concerns. No e-waste, Styrofoam (EPS), fluorescent bulbs will be collected until further notice. When details of this valuable program re-opens, an announcement will be posted on www.cranbury township.org website. If you have e-waste, Styrofoam (expanded polystyrene EPS) or fluorescent bulbs to recycle, please hold on to them until the Recycle Shed re-opens. Since Town Hall is closed to the public (until further notice), media e-waste (CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes is limited to 25 per household, cell phones, button and rechargeable batteries) collection of these items have been suspended until further notice. Thank you for understanding and patience. The Township of Cranbury apologizes for any inconvenience this causes. https://www.cranburytownship.org/home/news/recycle-shed-closed-april-3rd
The carboard dumpster is only supposed to be used by residents. Commercial are required to have their own dumpsters for disposal. It would not be fair for residents to foot the bill for a company like Amazon or Wayfair to dispose of their cardboard I know someone is going to say its for small businesses not large business but that would still be incorrect as you can't pick and choice which business uses it.

Seems you got an answer already. The TC agreed to keep the sign up and open the gate. Then if there is an issue go back to Monday and Thursday.
The sign is on a fence. When the gate is closed no dumping cardboard and when open you enter. I guess the TC figured leaving the gate wide open to access the dumpster was enough to not waste PW time constantly putting up and taking down a sign.
I envy you if a sign is your biggest concern in life.

I have an even better idea - Maybe Jay should ask the DPW guys to replace the incorrect sign with the old one !! Isn't that his job ? He is supposed to oversee Public Works in his role on the TC. If he can't handle this then he should resign ---- handing over his position to another unelected Democrat like Ferrante.

So the sign on the DPW fence stating Mon and Thurs 8-12 Noon seems to be inaccurate . someone bumped into Jay and it is actually Mon-Fri 8-3, passed by the Committee over a year ago. Perhaps the Twsp should employ a consultant to conduct a study to see if the sign can be removed or appropriate several thousand dollars to get an accurate sign.( Government rates) OR................Have a DPW employee take the sign down, Whoa! too much logic.

The cardboard dumpster is at the DPW yard to be used by commercial businesses in town that generate an abundance of cardboard. The state requires that all commercial operations recycle certain items and thankfully Cranbury is very business friendly and offers a few days per week where business taxpayers can drop off their large cardboard items. The county recycling pickup does not travel to larger business operations in town and they will not take oversized items. The Township is also kindly offering this dumpster to all residents even though they have an opportunity to place cardboard at the curb every other week. Residential taxpayers should appreciate the opportunities that the town provides with respect to the cardboard disposal, recycling shed + twice per year bulk trash drop off.
Most of the previous posts are inaccurate. Cardboard Disposal is available at the Public Works yard from 8-12 Monday and Thursday. Fencing & surveillance cameras have been installed this year to try and deter illegal dumping along with the reduced hours. People are still stupid and drop off trash in the parking lot and even toss things over the fence. The Police have tracked down a few of these "knuckleheads" but the town refuses to press charges. Perhaps their feats of stupidity should be shared in this forum...............
This makes no sense. Why would the police waste time to track down illegal dumpers, and not press charges?

I saw Jay this weekend in his yard. He confirmed it is M-F 8am to 3pm, but can close earlier if the PW staff has closed the yard due to doing other things. They did try attempt to limit hours and then relaxed and went back to 5 days a week to be more environmentally sound when they got some complaints about people needing to dispose of large boxes. The sign remains up because if illegal dumping occurs again then it will change back to Monday and Thursday.
If you don't believe me you can email the township or a TC member. This is not the place to try and get factual information.

Really, is this all you have to worry about? Aren't you suppose to be staying at home? I can't believe that cardboard and electronics is the most important thing in you life at the moment. I think they should do away with the cardboard dumpster as we have curbside cardboard pickup. I would bet it's the same few people that use the service anyway. Just do away with it and eliminate the chance of dumping at the Public Works yard.

Read the minutes from the TC meetings. The sign was posted when the gate was closed and restricted to 8-3 Mon and Wed to curb illegal dumping. The TC voted last year to go back try M-F 8 to 3 and it has stayed that way.
If you don't believe me email a TC member or the Twp clerk. They just never took the sign down as it was to go back if people continued dumping.

You are mistaken on the cardboard hours. There is a large sign at the entrance stating Mon and Thurs 8AM to Noon. That is all, not 8 to 3 Mon to Fri. as you state. These restrictive hours are a deliberate obstacle. As to the comment from another poster, apparently you have never attempted to engage the assistance of the Twsp Administrator.

It is a very good question. Lets examine the possible underlying explanation. The Twsp pays to dispose of everything deposited at the "Recycle" Center. Therefore every obstacle to prevent its use and force residents to use the 2 week County pickup instead is employed, The cardboard dumpster is open 8AM to 12 Noon on Monday and Thursday. That narrow timeframe makes its use inconvenient and in many cases impossible for residents to use as most (under normal times) are at work during these hours. The closing of the electronics shed due to Coronavirus is another excuse to restrict its use. The explanation was that the DPW employee would not be there to assist in unloading. Was anyone at your house to help you get it in your car or truck. Logic says if you got it into your car you can get it out. There are many illogical restrictions being placed on the public under the convenient Coronavirus explanation by State County and Municipalities.
A couple of comments.
1) DPW tried to restrict days for cardboard because people were bringing in garbage and other items just leaving it in the yard. The TC opted last year to give people a second chance and the cardboard is 8-3 Mon to Friday. These are hours when DPW works and can hopefully stop people from dropping garbage off that they should not be doing.
2) The Recycle shed is just that. Someone is there takes the material and it gets stored in the shed until collection. Someone needs to be there to open and close the shed.
Just hold onto whatever you need until it reopens.

Why don't you send an email to the township and ask them what you should do if you have too much stuff to keep in storage until the shed is open? I am sure they answer emails working from home. And if you don't get an answer, ask the administrator. It's her people after all, and she makes a pretty penny.

Any word on the return to open date of the recycling shed? Thx
Are you serious?
Yes. What's wrong with asking if anyone knows the plan for the recycle shed?
Far more important things going on in the world right now. Honestly your question is one of the dumbest I’ve seen on this website.
It looks like someone is getting a little cranky.
Let me break it down for you...
1. All levels of government are starting to plan when things will open up again and at what pace.
2. This is a forum to discuss township related issues, such as the recycling shed and
this thread is specifically about the pandemic affect on recycling shed operations
.
3. It is logical to consider that the recycling shed may open on a different schedule than other township operations and that people on this thread might know the answer.
I'm not sure why anyone would get upset about asking a question about the recycling shed hours on the township forum thread that is dedicated to the recycling shed hours. That seems like a dumb thing to get upset about.
