April 17, 2020 - COVID 19- Update from Chief of Police

Alert: COVID-19 case update from the Chief of Police:

Nearly 10 days have passed since my last COVID case update. Since that time, the Township has been notified of six (6) additional cases bringing the total number of COVID positive cases in Cranbury to sixteen (16). The good news is that most of these new cases were reported early in this 10-day time frame. Please understand that the reporting of positive test results takes a minimum of 6 to 8 days from the date the test sample is taken to when state, county and local officials receive notification. Given this delay, we are truly looking at week old case data. We have also received quite a few positive case results for addresses outside of Cranbury, (that which have Cranbury mailing addresses but are physically located in surrounding municipalities). These results have been documented in county and state databases as “Cranbury Cases”. Such inaccuracies are sent back to the Middlesex County Health Department by my Office so they may make appropria te notifications as well as correct their records. However, it may take some time for these changes to be reflected in county and state databases/websites. Therefore, the only true and accurate COVID positive case numbers for Cranbury are those which are certified and released by the Office of the Chief of Police.

In the future and until this health crisis passes, I will be releasing certified positive case numbers for the Township on a weekly basis. These numbers will be sent via Nixle and posted on the Township Website every Friday. As always, any urgent updates will broadcast immediately.

Thank you all for your cooperation and patience during this difficult time.

Rickey A. Varga
Chief of Police
