I am new to town, so perhaps it's just me. However, we moved here for the small town and we purposely did so. I grew up in a big town and wanted a more relaxed town. We realize this is not big town, services are not the same nor should they be we have smaller tax bases. At the same time the safety is much better. There is and should be different views and approaches for different towns. You can't compare Cranbury to the towns that are much larger or feel/act as though those town issues will come here otherwise there is no value to being here. You can make yourself insane if you worry about every little safety issue or worst case scenario that can happen and think that those big town or city issues will happen here. We moved to Cranbury NOT to worry about this. This is not Trenton, Old Bridge, Cateret. Heck, it's not Monroe, Hightstown or Princeton. We don't have issues with kids from outside walking into our schools like Trenton nor are those odds even worth worrying about. It amazes me how many parents I talk to who say we need to do this or I am worried about this happening because it happened where I used to live or we thought it might happen. When asked I am told the towns were 10,000, 20,000 or even NYC. And that is the frame of reference they are using for saying Cranbury should do this or do that.
Disagree. Many schools went to uniforms to avoid gang colors. Not a problem in Cranbury yet.

Sulikowski said he got the idea after finding out approximately 20 percent of public schools in the nation have uniform policies. The biggest rationale, he said, was safety.
“Anyone can get into the building, and you can’t distinguish who these kids are,” Sulikowski said. “They all look alike because they wear what they want. With uniforms, if an intruder does get into the building, you can pick them out on the spot.”
The whole point of changing the main office access and locking the doors was to keep intruders out. The above is a ridiculous argument - but mention the word "safety" where children are concerned and people will bow down.
maybe the teachers should wear uniforms.
