Plainsboro Community Garden
The Community Garden is available to Plainsboro Township residents through a random-drawing lottery system. Successful applicants will be granted permission to “farm” a garden plot, measuring 20’ x 20’ (one plot per household). Fifty-three plots will be available in the 2009 drawing. The Plainsboro Community Garden is located on the south side of Plainsboro Road at the base of the railroad bridge.
Application Procedure: Completed application form and $25 application fee must be submitted to the township by March 16, 2009 as detailed below. The application fee is non-refundable to successful applicants. An additional $50 security deposit will be required of those selected by April 17, 2009. If you had a plot last year you may request in writing to apply the security deposit to this years security deposit. The security deposit will be refunded at the end of the season if the plot is maintained and cleaned up as outlined in program rules.
Planting Season: Gardeners may access their plots after April 4, 2009. Garden permits expire December 15, 2009. Plots must be vacated and returned to pre-planting condition on or before December 15, 2009 to qualify for refund of security deposit.
Water is available, as well as an on-site compost facility. Questions may be directed to Plainsboro Township Public Works, 609-799-0099, extension 10.

Application for 20’ x 20’ Plot at Plainsboro Community Garden
Plainsboro Residency Required
Completed application form and $25 application fee (check payable to Plainsboro Township) must be received by March 16, 2009. Applications should be mailed to Township of Plainsboro, Community Gardens Program, 641 Plainsboro Road, Plainsboro NJ 08536. One application per household.
If selected in the drawing, the applicant understands that the $25 application fee is non-refundable, and that an additional $50 security deposit will be required, refundable pending proper maintenance and clean-up of the assigned plot as outlined in the program rules and regulations. The applicant agrees to abide by all of the regulations for the Plainsboro Community Garden and understands that the seasonal permit may be terminated at any time for violation of regulations. The applicant holds harmless the Township of Plainsboro, its employees, officials, and volunteers thereof with regard to any injury or accident that may occur as a result of the use of this facility.

The garden is a good idea but with the budgets being cut who is paying for the water bill? Would there be a fee to pay for such expenses? Second who is going to do the rototilling each spring and the clean up after the growing season?
Plainsboro has a community garden. I assume the people gardening will pay a fee??? How is it handled over there?

I believe that they're looking for volunteers.

I still think that the new baseball field would make a great garden. It already has a fence around it to keep the kids out!

Wait, you can't associate the new community gardens in any way with the school!
If you do in a few years the Township will have to fund a second garden for all the people who don't want one that has anything to do with the school.
I don't understand your point. This would be a community garden that would include EVERYONE in the community including children. Is there a movement in town that is age restricted that I don't know about?

What kind of trees?
What species?
Are they little saplings?
We should get some wildflower seeds as well. You can get millions of seeds for hardly any money and they will grow back every year, more or less, forever.

Good thought.
Could it be tied to the school, but at the Fisher farm property? certainly not as convenient, but still workable I think.

Just an added comment. If the community garden is tied into a Cranbury school program; there is a good chance it could be funded by a foundation grant or even a governmental grant. Afterall, Obama is putting money into education in with a focus in math, science, and technology.

Post subject: Re: Community Garden for Cranbury
I believe that there are some beekeeper hobbyists in town, Mrs. Quinn on liedke among them, that last year were looking for a place for their bee boxes. a community garden spot might be an ideal location. The school component is a good idea, but as a town there is an awful lot going on at the West property. The fisher farm might be a more peaceful and easy to use location, and if it has water there, all the better. fisher may also have fewer competing constituents which may make it easier to get it off the ground, or in the ground as the case may be.
