[quote="Guest"]I think as many people as possible need to come to the May 19 meeting and they need to say loud and clear to the TC that they should not vote for this without taking the opportunity to use the upcoming primary to allow all the voters of the town the chance to weigh in and go with the majority decision. If the tactic is to frighten the taxpayer to put either place the library or COAH homes on that property - this is absolutely ridiculous and backfires for justification of the purchase of this property.
The choice property is being sold at a premium 1.4 million for little over 1 acre with a building. Seems like an outrageous price to put COAH homes in that spot.
If they really want more to build more COAH homes. A better value would be the 5.2 acres for $649,900. (close to $130,000 per acre).
The above tactic just backups the fact that the TC is purchasing this property without any plan - No idea why or what will be placed there or what the final cost will be. They just feel it is prime property and we can purchase it as a 400,000 saving.
The TC members are missing the fact that they were elected to make decisions and lead our township in the best interest of our community. They are not realestate investors or speculators. AND if they were, they would already know this would be a bad investment and should allow a private individual or agency the luxury to purchase this property.

That is the newest arguement I have heard and certainly would not make sense. If the PNC property is bought by a private concern they would have to go before the planning board and also have to go through HPAC for approval to tear down and rebuild. Those approvals will be denied.
If the building is bought by a private concern looking to have a business then the town cannot use the affordable housing arguement unless they plan to condemn the property.
However, if the town owns the land then they could potentially use it for affordable housing assuming that the planning board and HPAC approve. However, why would they want to go through that cost and trouble?
The purchase has no effect on affordable housing.

Wow if this is indeed true then we have allot more going on here then I thought and it brings this issue to a whole other level.
I for one see the library and purchasing PNC as separate issues and in regard to the purchase of the PNC property I am against it for a host of reasons which I will save for the meeting on the 19th of May.
It would be interested to hear more about the affordable housing argument. I for one just do not see affordable housing going into that site; it would make no sense at all. It sounds like scare politics to me.

Post subject: Library supporters changing tactic on PNC site
With the obvious level of public resistance to the idea of pursuing public purchase of the PNC site as a Library, the Township Committee and Library supporters have recently started changing their tactics to still justify acquiring the site with taxpayer money. Suddenly it is not about getting it for a new library but a host of other reasons, such as the threat that it could otherwise be used for affordable housing. Expect at next Monday’s meeting for the supporters of the Library to come out on offense trying to “educate” us poor, ignorant masses about how this isn’t about the Library but the need for the public to control the site to assure it gets used for the “right” purpose and doesn’t become something we will all regret.
Then after they get their way and vote for taxpayers to pay for the acquisition, well of course the best use now that we own it will just happen to be a new Library. Sure, why not?
Don’t fall for it. This is just a scam to get this unnecessary project built and remove another potential private business site through the use of your taxes. Expect the annual increases to keep on coming as they justify the need to pay our debt. Well guess where the building debt comes from? Spending on things that are not essential to the town’s survival.
