The race timers were supposed to have this posted shortly after the race on their site - http://www.bandlracetiming.com/index.html - but I have not seen it yet. We will be following up with them this week. Sorry for the delay.

Once the official results are in, a notice will be put on this board as well as www.HeleneCody.com with all the results. I am proud to announce the fastest female overall and fastest female from Cranbury was Jenna Cody who ran her personal best 5K race. Justin Houck was fastest male and Rick Spann was fastest male from Cranbury.

It was a great race, we had well over 500 registered runners. Thanks to all the participants, volunteers, sponsors, supporters and especially Greg Carroll for organizing the race. It was wonderful to have the community pull together for the race. Everyone had a great time. Helene would be proud. Very Happy

Win Cody

It looks like they haven't posted any results since July.

As there were no chips, I don't see how they can publish the times. They can publish the list of the runners and their places. And it may take time for them to sort the papers out.

Hi,
I was searching for race results and found this page. Just wanted to say thanks to all involved for a really terrific race. Everything was great--from the course, to the refreshments to the setting, the DJ and everything. All the volunteers were helpful and cheerful. Truly a very nicely done event. Thanks again!

Not being a regular runner, can you explain what you mean about "no chips." I have done a few other charity 5K's like this one and they were all the same as this -- you cross the digital time display and someone is there noting your time. They you turn in the little peice from the bottom of your number and they use that just to confirm the order as a double-check. I presume this makes the time approximate within a second or so, but that's good enough and the order should be right. Those 5K's were still able to publish times.

So you do you say you can't without a chip?

Not sure why someone said that results can't be published without a chip, since most 5Ks I've ever done involved no chip. I cant remember getting a chip other than triathlons. But some running races may use them since they are more common these days.

Generally, chips are generally used for larger races (500+ people) since it is a pain to enter/scan that many bib numbers in order into a computer to compile and complete the results. Chips are more efficient but it is more costly to have them in use during a race. The Cranbury 5K's in the past have had generally less than 150 runners; for the large turnout that this past one had, the organizers may want to consider chips as an option since most competitive runners, I think, would like to see how they did on the same day, usually in the afternoon. Cheers.

Ok, if someone takes note of the times at the finishing line, you will be able to publish them. I didn't see anybody doing that, that's why I'm sceptical about it. The bottoms of the bibs were ripped off and put together on a string, I didn't see anybody actually writing the time on it [and I understand why: it would have been a burden with all the runners present Saturday!].

It was a great race anyway with the DJ, refreshment and everything at the end: that was perfect!

oh, a chip is a something that you tie on your shoe lace. It records the time when you cross the starting line and when you cross the finish line. Then you have your "real" time. The time on the clock is the "official" time, but when there are lot of runners, you can sometimes have 10 minutes between the first runner passing the starting line and the last one! You better have a chip in this case, as it's not really accurate. Obviously for the H Cody 5K, it was not a big problem.

To respond to the previous email, it is true that there was a person collecting bib tags and placing them in order of finish. In addition, there is another person with a calculator-type machine who clicks it every time a runner passes the finish line. This records the time for every finisher. It is not the most accurate but is pretty close.

After that, all one has to do is to link the data (entry form info, order of tags, and time of each finisher) and compile the data to get an ordered finish list. You can write a short excel/c program to do this. Cheers.

Results are posted for those interested:

http://www.bandlracetiming.com/Results/2009-09-12%20Cranbury%20Day.html

I noticed my time is recorded 4 seconds slower than my actual time. It wouldn't have made any difference in the results (by a long shot), just noting the margin of error, which seems fine.

These results are not the same as those announced on the day of the race.

They didn't announce all the results on the day of the race. They only announced the top three per category, and had an errors then, with the 16 year old boy who won the 10 and under category. And they didn't let everyone have access to the full board of results so you couldn't necessarily go by that.

My results on the site are a few seconds off what I know I did. Their system was relying on a guy with some kind of calculator strapped around his neck who was occasionally distracted. When I and a couple others came in we were forced to slow to a walk passed the finish line toward where they collect the bib tags and he only recorded us somewhere along that walk as we stopped to wait our turn to be collected. No big deal.

Also, they seem to be missing some data. My bib tag clearly showed my age, for example, but they list me with no age in the results. It's not like I would have placed so it doesn't matter. But there are some people without ages who are listed before some of the top placers in various categories, so who knows.

Overall I don’t think it matters. This was a charity event. Everyone could see their real times as they finished and it was all for fun and a good cause and was a great event.
