Main Street is a public roadway so it can not be restricted as far as I know.
Reading the above post I get the feeling that guest is a little over dramatic in their post.
I see people I know from town speeding and driving carelessly at different times.
I also notice a ton of people jaywalking. You can't complain about the people not stopping for people in crosswalks and then jaywalk all over the village. Both go hand in hand. |

How do you know the truck was doing 35 or more? |

Visual estimate. That's why I said "or more" -- I have a good sense of what 25-30 looks like on Main Streer and this was way faster than normal traffic. It could have been a lot more but I was trying to be conservative. |

Sure you can.
First of all, I was at a crosswalk. And you can't excuse every driver who illegally ignores people at a crosswalk and illegally crossed the line to the opposing lane just because some other people jaywalk at some other time. That doesn’t make sense.
Second, pedestrians legally have the right of way even if they are jaywalking. So even if what they are doing is wrong and illegal, the law still requires vehicles to stop for them. Jaywalking does not legally or morally justify cars that don’t stop for people.
There are all kinds of traffic restrictions on public roads. A common one is to discourage non-local traffic during rush hour by making turns from the most trafficked entrance points against the law during rush hours. For example, you can’t turn left onto Symmes Court from Cranbury Neck during rush hours, to avoid people using the residential street to try to short-cut around the left turn onto Main Street that often backs up during those hours. There is a sign on Cranbury Neck to alert people (though it doesn’t stop some, presumably it stops the majority who are law abiding and it would allow the police to ticket those who don’t if caught). I have no idea if anything comparable can be done on Main Street – just bring it up for discussion.
You’re welcome to your opinion on the “drama” of the post. I didn’t say local people never speed, just that I had observed a lot of speeding during rush hour when much of the traffic are people diverting around Route 130. |

There are a lot of good issues being raised here.
I would encourage people to attend the township committee's forum on traffic concerns at this Monday's meeting, 7:30 10/26 in the large group room behind town hall. |

A common sense approach has to be taken. Its nice to put all these restrictions on turning. I do not think it is possible to enforce all of these restrictions. There are usually 2 or maybe 3 cops working. I see at least 1 or 2 at the school crossings. I am sure there are also plenty of accidents that they have to handle on route 130, 535, and Dey Road. Unless we want to raise taxes and hire 20 more, all we can do is put up signs and ask people to the obey them. My taxes are high enough. |
