Some of the happiest countries in the World pay >50% in income taxes. And well above 10% in VAT.
I hope you "earned" your money.... |

What if the government required you to pay a $3 fee, of which $1 would go to services for the homeless, $1 would pay for administration of the services and $1 would go to politically connected cronies? Would you still viilify those who are opposed? |

And so, if you saw 100 people jumping off a bridge to their death, but they looked happy would you advocating doing it to? The 3 dollars for this cause to me is fine. However, I do question why it can be part of the sales tax we already pay when we sell our home. |

Not sure I understand your point.
The government deciding for you (by force) what charities, missions and outreach you MUST contribute to is one thing. People giving from their hearts out of love for one another and to the charities and missions they personally believe in and support is another.
You can be against government redistribution of wealth and still be a Christian. The two are not mutually exclusive.
You can even believe in the same goal as the government (helping people with housing, food, etc.) and not believe the government is the most effective and efficient method of achieving those goals. |
AHEM!
It seems that someone needs to return to Sunday School!
The Jesus that I know of preached about helping others, not about what tax bracket they belonged in. Just another "Christian" revisionist who warps the facts to suit their own agenda?
I recall a passage about a camel through the eye of a needle.

First, I don't understand the Christian bashing from you or the poster in the other thread it is rather insulting to me. Then you attempt to try and tell the poster above that he/she is wrong. Are you saying the only way for someone to truly give is through government taxes and charity is meaningless, because that is your statement since the post your responding to is saying give to charity. I don't remember in the Bible any apostle, Jesus or anyone else advocating for more taxes as a means to helping others in addition to or in lieu of charity.
You can do as I do and give through charity where more money per dollar will go to the cause. Plus, i wonder if your view is government only how much you do give to chairty anyway.
Romans 13:5-7:
Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
In terms of your camel through the eye of a needle comment Matthew 19:24, it does not follow with and pay all your taxes to the government. So please don't bash Christians who believe in charity and then try and cite passage to fit your agenda. |

I posted that comment. So I suggest you take whatever issue you have with Dan and let it go. Just because you have an issue with faith and choose to make your own ignorant views made in this forum does not mean we have to accept it. |

LOL, can we all just get along and agree that food is a basic necessity of life and those who have some extra non perishable food in our pantries will drop them off at our food drive, 128 North Main Street. I PROMISE it will get put into the right hands, not the government, the truly needy who just need a helping hand.
Thank you in advance,

So if the Bible says to pay your taxes and don't complain about it........................why do your types insist on complaining about it? Just another case of obeying the passages that you agree with?

You really need to learn comprehension skills. Though that would mean you would not have as much fun.
There is a difference between paying taxes and then paying additional taxes. There is a difference between wanting increased taxes and feeling that taxes should not be increased.
You can increase taxes and spend it on war does that mean increasing taxes is good?
I am far far from rich, but I will gladly make the contributions I do to my church to St. Judes, ALS and TASK then have that same money end up going into additional taxes.
Unfortunately, you can't understand what people write. Which is why you're posts have the attitude they do. |

As a rule, I try not to post to this forum because I do not feel it is my place. But I thought it important, given that someone has opted to accuse me of posting anonymously, to set the record straight: If you do not see my name attached to a posting, you can be assured that I had nothing to do with it. I do not believe in anonymous postings and I do not post without my name -- whether here or elsewhere.
Feel free to disagree with any editorial we run, any column I write, or anything I say in my blog. Feel free to criticize me personally or professionally. Do it here, do it in the comment section of our Web site or on my blog, write me a letter to the editor. Just do not accuse me of things I would never do.
