I asked one of the DPW guys what they thought of the ice and they said typically the rule of thumb is 5-7 days straight of below freezing temperature will get us where we need to be.

Is the Ice rink set up in the park? It is only 8-12 inches deep and can freeze in 2 days.

The rink is set up. The ice looks solid. It is surrounded by a snow fence with signs saying no skating. I don't get it.

If they say it's not time to skate, believe them. You wouldn't like to have a problem, would you? Three years ago, we were able to skate after several day below 15 degrees F

The rink is less than 12 inches deep, how much of a problem would we have?

If you want to skate so bad go do it. Hope you won't mind the cold wet feeling you get when it breaks...lol

Stop guessing and dont take risks walking on thin ice, instead use your brain to figure out when 6" inches have formed on the lake. You can find the formula here:

I am talking about the rink which is only 6 to 12 inches deep. Seems to me the risk isn't too great. Will they open it tommorrow?
