Its the truth. The township does not make it easy for anyone to buy, and therefore prevents owners from selling to good prospective buyers |

This is a relative truth. You must believe surrounding towns do a better job. Which Towns do you believe have done a better job with development than Cranbury? |

That days of newspapers printed on paper and books that can be held in your hands are numbered. I am soooo glad that we did not make a big blunder by spending millions of dollars on obsolete thinking. Libraries all over the world are shrinking and going digital, who needs parking when your novel fits in your iPhone? Who needs to return a book when you can just order it delivered online? Who needs old magazines or newspapers when you have RSS readers? Encyclopedias are now Wikipedia's, DVDs are now streamed from Netflicks, etc. The old fashioned library is going the way of the horse and buggy shop people, wake up and smell the digital ink. Youre part of it now. |

Why then are public libraries experiencing record circulation of all use and record numbers of people visiting them? |

I think the key to the above anti-library comment is the word
old-fashioned. A good public library is always changing and including all the new aspects of information accessibility. Our public library is doing a great job of this. You should stop by.... |

The library issue and PNC is dead. The library is doing their own fund raising to build a library at some point. This should not even be part of this discussion now. |

No response. I guess the township isn't doing such a bad job. |

The PNC building would make a GREAT library!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BUT
Only if we had the money to fund it. Since we don't.......................better to use it as office space. Instead of a house built on the parking lot why not another small office building type structure that will bring in employees and ratables?
Something that fits in with the look of the neighborhood. |

The library should've been made bigger when they added on to the school a few years ago. Why do they skimp when doing construction? It's always cheaper to add on NOW than it is to wait 10 more years after prices go way up! The school addition should have been built with that in mind, as well as more storage space. Things are being stored in the hallways because there is no storage space ANYWHERE!
Maybe, it's time to add on some more space for a bigger library and more storage space. Do it soon while construction contractors are still pleading for work. I know that is still costs money. But, this is one of THE best schools in the state and I want to keep it that way. |

I agree that a business space makes more sense, but the town has no control. Sweetwater owns the property and if they want to build a home they can as it meets all zoning law. |

I just hope the people living in the immediate area aren't like the rest of the town and try and stop this (NIMBY). Maybe they can't stop it do to the zoning but I am sure they will try even though there is currently a commercial property there. Maybe they will be of the same mindset as the people in Cranbury Manor trying to keep any commercial business off of Route 130. |

There is nothing anyone can do to stop it if they wanted to do it. Zoning allows for it and there are no variances required. The use of the property is continued as was the case prior. |

It sounds like you may have the wrong impression about resident concerns about commercial development on Route 130. I don't believe people are "trying to keep any commercial business off of Route 130". However, people are concerned about certain types of retail development along Route 130.
You may also want to check your definition of NIMBY.
Also, where is Cranbury Manor? |

Cranbury Manor is East Windsor by the Exxon station and Deli. |

I saw in the Press the quote above that no variances are required. Not sure if this refers to Use Variances (needed if the proposed use is not permitted in the zone) or Bulk Variances (deals with setsbacks, driveway width, number of parking places etc). I find it hard to believe that no bulk variances are needed, and it may well be that use variances are needed. There will now be a house, offices, change in site plan, retail bike shop etc. However, whether they need variances or what type of variances they need, I believe they must get Planning Board Approval for a new site plan which will enompasses all variances, bulk and use, along with engineering, parking, drainage, etc. This will allow input from any interested party, including the Town (who may want to see public parking continued) or the library folks who may want.... For me, I welcome a new business or two in town. |
