Cranbury Sauce is Awsome thanks for looking at life from the lighter side. Cranbury has had a fire and first aid siren for over 50 years I can remember being awoken as a child and not only hearing the siren but 6-7 of my neighbors slamming doors and rushing to the fire house when needed then hearing 2-3 fire engines responding to the incident. too bad volunteerism has nearly been extinguished. next time you are disturbed at 3 am you can simply roll over and drift off as you can rest assured your neighbors will take care of business. Thank god for Cranbury Sauce... |

Guys come on relax. There are about 200 fire calls a year and the First Aid siren does not go off after 9pm. If you just ignore it, I am sure it will dissipate into the background. We have friends who live near a train track. The first time we visited we were asking how they stand it. They said they don't even hear it anymore it's just blurred in. |

Jake: "How often does the train go by?"
Elwood: "So often you don't even notice it." |

If it's too loud, then you're too old. |

It does go off after 9pm! You must live out of town! It went off at 2AM last week! It's not necessary in this age of pagers and cell phones. |

As was already stated by Mr. Taylor. The First Aid siren had issues and will not go off after 9pm in fact they apologized for the problem. The fire siren does go off for 24 hours a day. They are two different sounds and sirens.
I ask you. If your house was on fire would you not want every alarm possible going off to make sure the volunteers are aware. If you live in town then you should appreciate it because a small ember on an old house on Main St with their spacing plus a good wind the whole street could go up quickly. We sure should be making sure we are alerting every single member of the fire company and using all means. |

It is necessary for the simple reason that if the pagers/cell phones are not near the fireman or their battery runs out the siren is the back up.
If a fireman left his electronic equipment inside and was outside doing yard work then the siren will alert them to the fire alarm.
If at night the pager/cell phone's battery dies then the siren will wake them up.
STOP COMPLAINING ! |

It may just wake you up the night your house is on fire!! or your neighbors house is on fire.
seems like a small price to pay compared to a paid dept. Monroe Fire Dist #1 2010 budget 4.1million they also have 2 other districts |

I hope this is the end of the fire horn discussion. It seems the problem will be resolved. Hmm . . . there must be more important issues to discuss. |

Welcome to small town life.... I am just thankful we don't have a lot of massive issues to discuss and that items like the fire horn are considered major. Take a look at this discussion and look what is going on in Hamilton, Trenton, etc...We really are blessed to live in this town where the big issue is a fire horn. |

According to my cousin their police and public works are fighting. That is on top of all the issues they have with getting their TC and Mayor to work together. |

Jay Taylor: Isn't it a conflict of interest for you to be working on the siren considering you live nearby? (And by the way, liaison was misspelled). I don't know about the rest of you, but I RESENT Jay using this mean-spirited complaint blog as an official mouthpiece for township business. He's going to get the town in trouble, and then we'll have some unnecessary legal expenses to pay. |

Jay T. wrote: | Hello all,
I spoke with the Fire and First Aid Squad about the siren. There was a Squad call last night, but unlike the Fire siren which is on 24 hours a day, the siren for the Squad should not go off after 9pm. They are working on the issue and I'd kindly ask people to please be patient as this is a brand new siren and we're working the bugs out. I understand the siren should only last 1.5- 2 minutes.
I apologize for any inconvenience or woken babies (we had one in our house too). I am happy to answer or bring forth any of your questions as I am the TC liason to the Fire and Fist Aid Squad. You can email me at: jtaylor@cranbury-nj.com.
Again, I thank you for your understanding and patience.

Thanks Jay We need more civil responsive individuals like you. |
